Amazfit recently launched the GTR 4, the company’s latest offering in its GTR series. The watch is the successor of the company’s popular smartwatch GTR 3 and comes with a bigger display, larger battery, and improved tracking.

Unlike the company’s rugged T-Rex 2 smartwatch, the GTR 4 features a design similar to traditional watches. The watch features the company’s new dual-band GPS, which it claims is an industry-first. The company has also offered a larger display than its predecessor, allowing you to view more content.

I have been using the Amazfit GTR 4 smartwatch for a few weeks now, and here is my detailed review of the smartwatch that will help you decide whether you should buy the smartwatch.

Amazfit GTR 4 design and display

Amazfit has overhauled the design of the GTR 4 when compared to its predecessor. The curved display and rounded design of the GTR 3 have made way for a flat display with sharp lines.

The watch comes with a black bezel around the display with tiny lines which are barely visible.

The watch comes with a navigation crown and a button on the right bottom to launch the workout menu quickly. Apart from this, the watch does not feature any buttons, and you will have to perform all actions using the display. The crown gives good haptic feedback when used.

Amazfit GTR 4 strapSourabh Jain

The watch comes with a 22mm strap. The watch I tested uses a black silicone strap, but the company also offers brown leather and grey nylon straps. You can also easily replace the strap on the watch and attach third-party straps. The straps are airy and comfortable to wear, even for extended durations.

At the back, the watch features an aluminum alloy case that houses all the sensors and the magnetic pins for the charger.

Coming to the display, the Amazfit GTR 4 features a slightly bigger display than its predecessor and features a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a 466 x 466 pixels resolution. The display supports always-on capability and comes with scratch-resistant glass and anti-fingerprint coating, preventing finger smudges on display.

The display is sharp and bright, even in direct sunlight. It comes with an auto-brightness mode, allowing the watch to adjust the brightness based on external light.

Amazfit GTR 4 features

The Amazfit GTR 4 is a feature-packed smartwatch with a heart rate sensor and the company’s BioTracker 4.0 PPG biometric sensor that allows you to measure your blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) levels, which has become a necessary feature since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The watch offers dozens of watch faces, offering you several options based on your preferences. It offers several sports modes, allowing you to track your workouts and activities easily.

The watch can track activity, sleep levels, and cycles, has breathing exercises, tracks the female menstrual cycle, allows you to record voice memos, create to-do lists, and much more.

Amazfit GTR 4 performance and battery life

The Amazfit GTR 4 is packed with features on paper but do these features translate well to real-world usage? We tested the watch and found that the overall experience was positive, and the watch performed well.

Starting with the health and activity tracking, I compared the numbers on the Amazfit GTR 4 with other smartwatches and a certified pulse oximeter to find out if there were any deviations.

The watch performed well in health tracking, showing accurate information. Even the sleep tracking feature works well, and I found that the sleep duration shown on the watch was accurate.

The new one-tap measuring feature works well and reveals your heart rate, stress levels, blood oxygen saturation, and breathing rate in just 45 seconds, giving you a quick overview of your health. This allows you to track some vital stats throughout the day by spending less than a minute each time. I found the feature helpful and used it at least four to five times daily.

The Amazfit GTR 4 performs well in activity tracking, but there is a slight deviation. We compared the watch with other devices, such as the company’s T-Rex 2 and the Oppo Watch. I noticed a small deviation in steps and distance covered, but unless you are a professional looking for highly accurate information, the deviation is not a deal breaker.

Battery life is one of the biggest selling points of the GTR 4, and the watch earns its money in this department. It is claimed to offer a battery life of up to 14 days on a single charge. During my usage, with regular activity tracking and always-on display enabled during the day, I could get around 12 days of battery life, which is quite good.

Software and app

The Amazfit GTR 4 runs on Zepp OS 2.0, and it is one of the few smartwatch operating systems out there that feels good to use and does not feel clunky or laggy. It is easy to use, and the user interface is quite refined.

Zepp is the companion app you will need to install to sync your data and manage the watch. It is available for both Android and iOS devices.

The app has a clean interface and allows you to easily access your workout data and health information and manage the watch settings. You can also install new applications on the watch using the app.

Verdict and competitors

The Amazfit GTR 4 is a good smartwatch with many features and ticks all the right boxes. The watch looks like a traditional watch and is a good option for users looking for a watch that offers the features of a smartwatch but looks like a conventional watch.

If you are looking for a rugged smartwatch, the GTR 4 is not the right pick.

At this price point, the Amazfit GTR 4 competes with the Fossil Gen 5E, the OnePlus Watch, Amazfit T-Rex 2, and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4.
