Reliance Jio and Google’s much-awaited JioPhone Next smartphone is almost here. The low-cost 4G smartphone will go on sale this week on Diwali, and it will be available across JioMart Digital retail locations. The new smartphone has been co-developed by Jio and Google and it comes with optimised features for Indian users.

The JioPhone Next was earlier scheduled to launch on September 10 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi. But the launch was delayed due to the global shortage of semiconductors. It then announced a new launch timeline for Diwali, and this time the telco is on track. Just last week it revealed the price and financing schemes as well as the specifications for the JioPhone Next.

JioPhone Next price

The JioPhone Next is priced at ₹6,499 but it will be available with a downpayment and EMI plans. You can pay an entry price of ₹1,999, and the rest can be paid through EMIs spanning over 18 or 24 months.

JioPhone Next registration

For those interested in purchasing the JioPhone Next smartphone, you can visit a JioMart digital retailer. You can also register your interest to purchase the JioPhone Next by sending ‘Hi’ to 7018270182 on WhatsApp. You can also go to Jio’s website and enter your full name and phone number to register.

JioPhone Next specs

The JioPhone Next features a 5.45-inch HD+ display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layered on top. The smartphone sports a 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. It also has a rear LED flashlight, and display flash for the front camera. It will come with optimisations for low-light photography with an HDR mode, and India-specific Snapchat lenses integrated into the phone’s camera.

The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 processor, and it packs a removable 3,500mAh battery. There’s one variant of the JioPhone Next which comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. It has a microSD card slot for expandable storage up to 512GB. Its connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual SIM support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, a micro USB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

JioPhone Next features

The JioPhone Next runs on a customised version of Android called “PragatiOS”. Google features such as Read Aloud and Translate Now are integrated into the OS. These features will work with any text on the phone screen in addition to web pages, apps, messages and photos as well.

JioPhone Next users will also be able to use Google Assistant for Jio-related queries like playing music on JioSaavn or checking your balance on My Jio. The smartphone is also confirmed to receive regular security updates and Android releases.
