YouTube has started testing video downloads for its desktop app. This feature can only be tried out by YouTube Premium users as of now. It’s part of YouTube’s perks for Premium subscribers that can experience unreleased features. But the new feature is expected to roll out for all users soon.

The video download option was first spotted by Android Police, and it is available to YouTube Premium users in India and France. The feature is expected to be available in other markets as well. It’s the same thing as downloading videos on the YouTube mobile app but it gets a little tricky on the desktop. There’s some work needed here like using services that offer YouTube video downloading but are not very convenient. So a native download button on the YouTube desktop app should be a better option.

If you’re a YouTube Premium subscriber then follow these steps to download videos on the desktop.

Then click on the “try it out” button.

You should now see a new download button between the share and save buttons on YouTube.

YouTube currently lets you download videos with a maximum resolution of 1080p (Full HD). You can also choose to lower the resolution of the videos before you download them. There’s also delete all button for your downloaded YouTube videos. It’s worth noting that you can be part of only one experimental YouTube feature. If you’re already part of a test then that one will be disabled.

The download feature test is available until October 19 which could mean that the stable rollout will take place after this date.
