India’s richest man announced last week that his 5G entry is aimed at providing secure connectivity to his diverse business portfolio, which ranges from ports to energy, mining and airports, among others. About 20 per cent subscribers face connectivity issues for over 50 per cent of their voice calls. LocalCircles shared with TRAI the findings of its survey on 5G services, including that only 16 per cent of mobile subscribers, who had switched to 5G, have indicated an improvement in call connection and drop issues. 32% mobile subscribers don't have coverage despite paying for 4G, 5G: LocalCircles

San Francisco, Swedish telecom gear maker <keyword id="6356812" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ericsson">Ericsson</keyword> has accused <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> of violating its contractual commitments by failing to adhere to <keyword id="10427922" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="various-licensing-patent-agreements">various licensing patent agreements</keyword>. In a lawsuit filed at District Court in Texas in the US, Ericsson alleged that the South Korean tech giant failed to adhere to the fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms and conditions. Samsung's FRAND commitment is a contract between Samsung and <keyword id="1296450" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="European-Telecommunications-Standards-Institute">European Telecommunications Standards Institute</keyword>, Ericsson claimed in the complaint. "The application of the FRAND commitment in this instance is in relation to various global cross-licences that cover both parties' patents for 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G cellular standards," reports ZDNet. "Samsung's breach has caused Ericsson to suffer actual damages, such as Ericsson's costs and expenses in pursuing futile negotiations with Samsung in an amount to be determined at trial. In addition, Ericsson is further entitled to obtain specific performance under French law," the lawsuit read. Samsung was yet to react on the Ericsson lawsuit. The Swedish company said it is seeking to attain a declaration that it has complied with its FRAND commitment, and that Samsung has not. With several of the licensing deals set to expire next year and negotiations still ongoing, Ericsson said the payment of IP royalties may be delayed. "In the event of delayed royalty payments and the potential costs of litigation, Ericsson predicted its operating income could decline by SEK 1-1.5 billion per quarter from 2021 onwards". Samsung is currently one of the leading 5G players in the world. <keyword id="135365" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-Electronics">Samsung Electronics</keyword> dominated the 5G smartphone market in western Europe in the first half of the year. According to market researcherï¿½Strategy Analytics, Samsung captured an 88% market share of all 5G smartphones shipped in Western Europe in the first six months of the year. "Samsung today is the clear 5G leader across Western Europe, due to a strong portfolio of premium Android models, such as the Galaxy S20 5G and A90 5G," said Ken Hyers, a director at Strategy Analytics. In addition to powering ultra-low latency connections, which allow downloading full-length high-quality video or movie to a mobile device in a matter of seconds (even in crowded areas), <keyword id="59798" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fifth-generation" source="Orion">Fifth Generation</keyword> or 5G would enable solutions such as e-health, connected vehicles, more immersive augmented reality and metaverse experiences, life-saving use cases, and advanced mobile cloud gaming among others. The auction is being held for spectrum in various low (600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz), mid (3300 MHz) and high (26 GHz) frequency bands. The bidding which started at 1000 hrs will continue till 1800 hrs and will carry over into the next day, if there exists a demand for spectrum and bidders are putting in bids. The number of days the auction ultimately stretches to will depend on the actual demand for radiowaves and the strategy of individual bidders, although the broad industry consensus is that it may last up to two days. India's biggest spectrum auction begins; 5G airwaves worth Rs 4.3 lakh cr on offer

Led by <keyword id="6354504" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="reliance-jio" source="Orion">Reliance Jio</keyword>, the mega <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G" source="Orion">5G</keyword> spectrum auction ended on Monday after receiving record bids worth over Rs 1.5 lakh crore in 40 rounds spanning across seven days. 5G airwaves worth Rs 1,50,173 crore has been sold so far and the final tally is being prepared by the government, according to sources. Day six of the 5G spectrum auction on Sunday saw an incremental increase in the bidding figure after 37 rounds, with bids worth Rs 1,50,130 crore. According to industry analysts, Reliance Jio has placed bids for more than Rs 84,500 crore, while <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword>'s bids are worth more than Rs 46,500 crore. Vodafone Idea has placed bids of around Rs 18,500 crore, while a unit of <keyword id="118623" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="adani-enterprises" source="Orion">Adani Enterprises</keyword> has bids of around Rs 5,000 crore. Jio and Airtel were fiercely engaged in intense bidding in <keyword id="3829976" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="uttar-pradesh-east" source="Orion">Uttar Pradesh East</keyword> circle for the 1800MHz band. Devroop Dhar, Co-founder and board member, Primus Partners, said the auction stands testimony to the fact that the industry is willing and ready to expand further than ever before. "That is also the reason behind the key players finally going for the 700MHz bands. The 40 per cent cut down of the bands for Rs 3,927 crore per unit acted as an aid for the bidders," Dhar said. The expansive 700MHz band is built to cover densely populated regions such as India, which will truly benefit from this band and receive expansive 5G coverage. "As the bidding has been much higher than the previous auctions, the amount generated will add positively to the revenue and will help the government in the future while setting up the 5G infrastructure," Dhar added. While Reliance Jio may have an upper hand in terms of bundled handsets and their investments, other industry players also have an opportunity to compete in the industry as according to studies, Indian consumers claim to be willing to pay 50 per cent more for 5G-bundled plans. "Hence, the companies need to find an incentive to get their customers upgrade to 5G devices," Dhar said. 5G spectrum auctions fetch ₹1.5 lakh crore – more than half of it comes from Reliance Jio

The company had posted a consolidated net profit attributable to the owners of the company of ₹61.21 crore in the year-ago period, <keyword id="258914" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Enterprises-Ltd">Adani Enterprises Ltd</keyword> (<keyword id="236769" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AEL">AEL</keyword>) said in a filing to <keyword id="35140" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword>. The consolidated income of the company during the January-March quarter was at ₹13,688.95 crore as compared with ₹13,698.09 crore in the year-ago period, the filing said. "I am pleased with the results <keyword id="76451" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani">Adani</keyword> Enterprises has delivered. The company further said in the statement that on the consolidated basis during the fourth quarter the company's PAT ( Profit Before Tax) attributable to owners (before exceptional item) increased to almost seven times at ₹413 crore vs ₹61 crore due to higher EBIDTA ( earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization). "The profit for Q4 FY'21 was impacted by the one-time exceptional loss of ₹179 crore," the statement said. On the operational highlights for the fourth quarter, the company said that the solar manufacturing volume increased by 95 per cent to 376 MW. The company said that its board has recommended a final dividend of Re 1 per equity share of the face value of Re 1 each for the financial year 2020-21 subject to approval of the shareholders Adani Enterprises Ltd is the flagship company of Adani Group. Over the years, Adani Enterprises has focused on building emerging infrastructure businesses, contributing to nation-building, and divesting them into separate listed entities. The shares of the company closed at ₹1,267.85 apiece on BSE.
