New Delhi, May 29 () Multinational Conglomerate ITC Ltd's hospitality arm ITC Hotels on Friday announced to partner online food delivery platform Swiggy to deliver its food delicacies at customers' doorsteps amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The move would enable ITC Hotels' customers to enjoy their pre-paid orders with 'no-contact' deliveries and have unique food experiences with local offerings from the regions at their home, said a joint statement. This would be implemented into phases across India and deliveries from properties such as ITC Maurya (New Delhi), ITC Royal Bengal (Kolkata), ITC Grand Chola (Chennai), ITC Gardenia (Bengaluru), ITC Windsor (Bengaluru), ITC Kohenur (Hyderabad), ITC Rajputana (Jaipur), ITC Grand Goa (Goa) and Welcomhotel Bengaluru would be commenced in the phase one. While, under the second phase more ITC Hotels and Welcomhotel properties will be added to the Swiggy home delivery initiative, it added. Commenting on the development, ITC Hotels COO Anil Chadha said: "We are re-engineering our guest experiences with zero/low associate engagement (including digital ordering and e-payment solutions). The partnership with Swiggy will assist us in responsibly delivering our unique culinary experiences using their advanced distribution network.  <keyword id="166964" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ITC-Hotels">ITC Hotels</keyword> were the first to come up with the concept of Eva rooms exclusively for women travellers in the 1990s. The concept has now evolved from being just a single-room category at ITC Maurya in New Delhi to a dedicated wing and floor in ITC Hotels across the country. Earlier this year, ITC Maratha in Mumbai overhauled the women-only floor to incorporate new design elements. 
 "The endeavour is aimed at going beyond the expected and ordinary to cater to the 'unspoken needs' of this segment," said Dipak Haksar, chief operating officer, ITC Hotels. The hotel chain's upcoming property – <keyword id="2517854" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="ITC-Grand-Bharat">ITC Grand Bharat</keyword> at Manesar near Gurgaon – has special packages on golf, yoga, spa and beauty treatments. 
 
Even other hotel chains are now adopting the trend of women-only floors and bringing in newer and customised services for this segment. "Travel packages for women have been there for years and it's the same everywhere. But those can't work anymore as the female travellers have evolved and their needs are changing," says Louis Sailer, general manager of The Leela Palace, New Delhi. 
 
Hotels are focusing more on this segment as women travellers tend to spend more and indulge in quality lifestyle amenities like spas, beauty treatments, health and wellness.

"A great honour": Virat Kohli after T20 World Cup-winning India team meets PM Modi

New Delhi, One of India's most creative chefs who put nawabi <keyword id="19945772" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lucknow" source="keywords">Lucknow</keyword>'s <keyword id="20612438" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dum-pukht" source="keywords">Dum Pukht</keyword> cuisine on the world map, and also became the first practising member of his fraternity to ever get a Padma Shri in 2016, Imtiaz <keyword id="19974186" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="qureshi" source="keywords">Qureshi</keyword>, passed away on Friday at the age of 93. An unlettered cook who started working from the age of nine, Qureshi, who was known for his trademark handlebar moustache, Santa Claus-like personality and the chaste Urdu in which he would narrate his stories from the kitchen, was famous for inventing dishes whose ideas he would pick up from conversations with his patrons and fellow professionals. His influences and inspirations extended from the empress of ghazals, Begum Akhtar, for whom he invented a dessert named Lab-e-Mahshoukh, or pista kulfi drizzled with a sour cherry sauce, to <keyword id="20612440" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="roger-moncourt" source="keywords">Roger Moncourt</keyword>, the French chef who ruled the Continental kitchens of Delhi, from whom he picked up the secrets of the sauces that give French cuisine its distinctive personality. Qureshi started out training to be a pehelwan but ended up as an apprentice to his ustads, Haji Ishtiyaq and Ghulam Rasool, and started working with a Lucknow-based catering company that was serving the Indian Army during the Chinese War in 1962. It was then that Qureshi got to serve Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who was being hosted by the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, C.B. Gupta. To make the occasion special, and out of respect for Gupta's vegetarian sensibilities, Qureshi, who's best known for mutton and fish dishes, invented the Turush-e-Paneer, escalopes of cottage cheese stuffed with dried plum and oranges, quilted in a tomato plum sauce. As the fame of his culinary prowess spread, he moved up the professional totem pole, being hired by Lucknow's then go-to hotel, Clarks Avadh, and then being head-hunted by Ajit Haksar, the founder of ITC Hotels, for the group's new address in New Delhi -- Maurya Sheraton. And from there, he travelled the world, winning accolades wherever he went. At the Maurya, Qureshi became instantly famous. Diwan Gautam Anand, who was banquet manager when the chef was in his element, remembers how the nation's high and mighty would shower gifts on Qureshi in recognition of his food, which was then a novelty in the Butter Chicken-soaked national capital. According to Anand, Qureshi was indeed a self-taught powerhouse of culinary talent, but what made him stand apart was his 'milansar' personality, which enabled him to soak in whatever knowledge anyone had to offer. Anand remembers how Qureshi once came back excited from a dinner he had curated for the Afghan ambassador because he had discovered the brinjal dish known as 'badin jaan'. Overnight, he recreated it for Dum Pukht, the restaurant at the Maurya Sheraton, that became synonymous with the master chef and a standard-bearer for Indian fine dining. Dum Pukht's Badin Jaan consists of wheels of smoked brinjal with a spiced tomato topping and a smooth, creamy spiced yoghurt sauce. It was at Dum Pukht that the jugalbandi of the doyen of food writers, the late Jiggs Kalra, and Qureshi created sensations such as the Kakori Kabab (the melt-in-the-mouth version of the chunky mutton seekh kabab), with Kalra inventing the story of the toothless nawab in its honour, the signature Dum Biryani, and umami-packed gravy dishes such as the Koh-i-Awadh, the 'paya' reinvented with lamb shanks, and Mahi Dum Pukht, red snapper fillet cooked in an almond and brown onion sauce. He had created this dish first for the wedding of a Mumbai socialite's daughter in 1972 and he gave it a Bengali twist a couple of decades later with his Mahi Qaliya, where rohu fish cooked in mustard oil is the base ingredient, for a Kolkata-based news baron. With the passing of Imtiaz Qureshi, India has lost a chef who not only gave Indian fine dining a new lease of life and a personality of its own, but also, despite being unlettered, became its finest and most colourful spokespersons around the world.

And the 23 hotels shortlisted by the Ministry of External Affairs expect G20-related business in the days before and after the summit, for the trickle of officials is expected to start at least a week before the big event. According to hospitality industry sources, US President Joe Biden, in the tradition of previous visiting American heads of state, will stay at the ITC Maurya, which will see a cordon sanitaire descend upon it on the days of the summit. Chinese President Xi Jinping will check into the Taj Palace, the UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at the Shangri-La, and French President Emmanuel Macron at The Claridges. The Taj Mahal Hotel is likely to host the UAE delegation and the Saudi Arabians are expected to take over The Leela Palace. Key, security-cleared hotel staff, according to industry insiders, will also be staying over at their places of employment in view of the curfew-like traffic restrictions that will be in force across the city during the summit. Of course, the bulk of this business will go to what are known as the city-centre hotels, but the Aerocity establishments, which collectively boast of 3,600 keys, are not wringing their hands in despair. In the words of Vineet Mishra, Cluster General Manager, Pullman and Novotel, Aerocity: "City centre hotels for sure are reaping the choicest rewards, but the Aerocity is also getting its fair share, be it from the overflow of bookings or from regular travellers who seek value without compromising on quality." Mishra added: "Aerocity hotels are catering to a fair amount of spillover bookings, many of which are for the media teams travelling along with support functions." And what will happen to regular travellers as well as international tourists scheduled to go back to their home countries on the summit days? Ashwni Kumar Goela, Area General Manager, Radisson Hotel Group (South Asia), has the answer. "Apart from the designated hotels in Delhi hosting the G20 delegates, there are numerous other hotels across the city where regular guests can find accommodation," Goela said. "Additionally, neighbouring areas like Gurugram and Noida also boast of hotels that can provide quality accommodation to visitors seeking a place to stay in Delhi-NCR." Whether at the city centre or at the Aerocity, hotel chiefs, however, are more excited about the future doors that the summit is likely to open up for the industry. The MLAs from the Pilot camp are said to be lodged at different places, with about a dozen at ITC Grand in Gurugram, and a few others are at ITC Maurya in Delhi. Meanwhile, Sachin Pilot has gone incommunicado since he is not taking phone calls from any Congress leader, including his friends in the party. Sources said he spoke with Congress Treasurer Ahmed Patel late Saturday night, adding that the Congress was trying to pacify both the camps to save the party from embarrassment. On the other hand, the Gehlot camp claims that the Chief Minister has the support of 103 MLAs and his government the required numbers in the state Assembly. An earlier report had said that Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot had arrived in Delhi on Saturday to meet party high command and had sought an appointment with Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi. According to the sources, MLA P.R. Meena, considered to be from the Pilot group, had sought to meet Sonia Gandhi to apprise her of the "stepmotherly treatment given to them by the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan". Meanwhile, Chief Minister Gehlot called a meeting of his Ministers at his official residence in Jaipur late Saturday and asked all party MLAs to give a letter of support to him. Senior ministers have been roped in this regard. However, ministers from the Pilot camp did not attend this meeting. Gehlot, sources said, has spoken with Sonia Gandhi, Rajasthan party affairs incharge Avinash Pandey, and Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C.  They will be heading to Sabarmati Ashram first and after that they will head to the world’s largest cricket stadium – Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad.
