The strategy behind the US launch is to showcase this product to the world and attain international customers,” said <keyword id="4645120" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="deorah">Deorah</keyword>, who is a serial entrepreneur. <br />

The challenges of taking up a family business grow manifold for first generation entrepreneurs who have no backing in the form of an already existing business setup. <br /><br /> However, brothers Arjun and <keyword id="1178173" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rohan-Malhotra">Rohan Malhotra</keyword>, who founded early stage fund <keyword id="2994932" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="InvestoPad">Investopad</keyword> in 2013, think that such a setup offers some advantages as well. <br /><br /> "Growing up together, we tend to disagree on most things, but this turns out to be productive in business as it creates healthy debates," Arjun told <a href="Brotherly%20disagreements%20lead%20to%20healthy%20debates,%20say%20Investopad%20founders%20Arjun%20and%20Rahul%20Malhotra">ET</a>. <br /><br /> "Small companies are naturally working under a limited bandwidth and hence, they need to get their priorities straight - having a partner you are comfortable with makes that process easier," he adds.<br /><br /> As of now, Investopad has its focus on ventures centred on solving India-centric problems, building relationships with these enterprises so that they can observe their thinking process and entrepreneurial capabilities. <br /><br /> "When we started off, the startup ecosystem was already brimming with indigenous as well as foreign funds which were deploying funds at later stages of a startup - few were focussed on early-stages of a venture," says Rohan. "So we tried to figure out what the pain points were for these entrepreneurs and not having a physical space to work out of turned out to be one of them," he adds. <br /><br /> It was then that the brothers created that space for early-stage startups and entrepreneurs, keeping it open only to a few selective enterprises that had the potential of being investment-worthy in the future. <br /><br /> "What we have tried to foster here is a community of like-minded people who work together and even help each other out, bringing in a more collaborative rather than competitive environment," says Rohan. <br /><br /> "For instance, if there is a company in the telecom space that is creating a new technology, we can bring in people at a CXO level within the telecom industry as informal advisors to them," Arjun adds. <br /><br /> Investopad has now become a layer between the emerging founder ecosystem and seasoned industry leaders, having managed to spread across cities like Delhi, Gurgaon and Bangalore. <br /><br /> "We never wanted to raise money in our own business - we put up that capital ourselves," says Rohan. "We have spent about half a million dollars across three physical locations, that is Gurgaon, Delhi and Bangalore. Above and beyond that, we have also invested personal capital in the companies that we found to be exciting at its early stage. Brotherly disagreements lead to healthy debates, say Investopad founders Arjun and Rohan Malhotra

<keyword id="2994932" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="InvestoPad">Investopad</keyword> is a new-age venture fund which is committed towards providing entrepreneurs everything they need; from product growth, to networking support and even talent development. <br /><br /> They call themselves “a central plug-in to the early-stage technology ecosystem for founders, investors and technology companies”, Rohan told Business Insider that their platform-model helps them build earlier and deeper relationships with the companies before investing.<br /><br /> The partners allow entrepreneurs who they allow have the right skill-set and potential to use their facilities in Delhi, Gurugram and <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> and Rohan says that they only open co-working centers in places which make strategic sense for recruitment and other services that aid the start-ups they are working with. <strong>The New-Age Model<br /></strong><br /> Owing to many reasons such as Conventional VCs are growing disconnected from strong founder-networks at the early stages and Second-time founders seeking capital from their peers rather than institutional investors, Rohan thinks that early stage investment funds make a lot of sense, “Current investors in the Indian ecosystem don’t operate as more than simple ﬁnancial allocators which means that a services-centric approach dedicates resources to different areas where value can be created for start-ups.<br /> Next-gen VCs in foreign markets such as <keyword id="610465" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Y-Combinator">Y Combinator</keyword> have shown that founder communities and in-house services are key to differentiation, access, and success and Investopad is going in that direction.<br />

<strong>Networking for Success<br /></strong><br /> Malhotra suggests that networking is everything for the startup ecosystem and he credits his network for the success of Investopad and his 9 investments, 7 of which have gone ahead and raised further rounds. <br /><br /> Calling themselves sector agnostic within technology and generally focus on product companies with enablement, cross-border SaaS or fintech themes, Rohan says that they pounce on opportunity when they see it,”I think the currently VC model of a ten-year long investment is flawed as India companies grow much slowly compared to other developed markets. My brother is good at seeing long term potential of a company and I’m good at ascertaining talent and after much deliberation we choose where to invest our money,” says Rohan, who said that Investopad is looking to announce a bigger corpus of funds with other investors, shortly.<br />
