Samsung unveils new AI-based QLED TV at CES 2024

The premium smart TV range is available in sizes starting at 50-inches and going up to 98-inches. The brand has focused on better connectivity, advanced personalization, improved gaming experience, and sustainability. Price &amp; Availability The Neo QLED 8K TV comes in four variants with the available sizes 98-inch, 85-inch, 75-inch, and 65-inch. The QN700-C 65-inch variant is offered at a price of ₹3,14,990. The Neo QLED 4K TV has three variants- 85-inch, 75-inch, 65-inch, 55-inch, and 50-inch screen sizes. The QN85C (65-inch,55-inch) models will be available at a starting price of ₹1,41,990. Samsung also announced that consumers buying Neo QLED TVs until May 25, 2023, can get a free Samsung Soundbar HW-Q990 worth INR 99,990 with select Neo QLED 8K TVs and Samsung Soundbar HW-Q800 worth INR 44,990 with Neo QLED 4K TVs. Samsung Neo QLED TVs The Samsung Neo QLED TVs feature Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology that powers up to 33 million pixels and delivers a billion colors. The TVs feature Samsung’s Neural Quantum Processor, which supports the Quantum Mini LED-lit TV with 14-bit processing and AI upscaling. This enables Shape Adaptive Light Control and Real Depth Enhancer Pro for a three-dimensional experience. Both Neo QLED 8K &amp; 4K TVs are validated by Pantone, certifying accurate expression of 2,030 Pantone colors and 110 skin tone shades. The Neo QLED TVs come equipped with Q Symphony 3.0, allowing TV and soundbar speakers to operate simultaneously for a surround effect. Plus, the viewing experience is complemented by immersive sound with the world’s first wireless Dolby Atmos and Object Tracking Sound Pro with action-tracking sound from all corners of the TV. Moreover, the brand has introduced an AI Energy mode through its SmartThings app, which can reduce energy consumption by 20%. This is achieved by automatically adjusting the TV's brightness according to the ambient light, resulting in more efficient power utilization. Smart Connectivity The new lineup has a built-in IoT Hub with Calm Onboarding feature and IoT-enabled sensors to control lights or sound. The calm onboarding technology lets you connect Samsung or third-party devices smoothly to the TV. Samsung introduces new Neo QLED TVs in India with dedicated features for better connectivity, gaming, and sustainability

Seoul, <keyword id="135365" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung-Electronics">Samsung Electronics</keyword> and <keyword id="61562" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="LG-Electronics">LG Electronics</keyword> -- the world's two largest TV makers are set to intensify their battle in the <keyword id="879954" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TV-market">TV market</keyword> this year, as they unveiled new TVs using mini light emitting diode (LED) technology, ahead of the <keyword id="362383" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Consumer-Electronics-Show">Consumer Electronics Show</keyword> (CES) 2021. A Mini LED TV is a liquid crystal display (LCD) TV that uses tiny LED chips that generally range from 100 to 200 micrometers in size for its backlights. The product offers better brightness, higher contrast ratio and lower power consumption compared to conventional LCD TVs with regular LEDs. The industry observers said this year would be a breakout year for the Mini LED TV market as multiple TV makers would launch such products, reports Yonhap news agency. "Yearly Mini LED backlight TV shipments are projected to reach 4.4 million units for 2021, a 2 per cent penetration rate in the overall TV market, as brands begin integrating Mini LED backlights into their TVs and continue to improve technologies as well as optimize costs," said industry research firm 'TrendForce'. Of the two South Korean electronic giants, LG first introduced its Mini LED TV on December 29, combining its quantum dot and NanoCell technologies. The company said its new QNED Mini LED TV lineup comprises 10 models offering both 4K and 8K options with large screen sizes upto 87 inches. "LG's innovative Mini LED backlighting comprises up to nearly 30,000 tiny LEDs that produce incredible peak brightness and a contrast ratio of 10,00,000:1," the company added. "Thanks to a new panel structure enhanced by LG's advanced Mini LED backlighting, these TVs deliver a truly immersive viewing experience in the LCD space." <keyword id="10591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> threw its hat into the ring on Thursday by introducing the <keyword id="10573403" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="neo-qled-tv">Neo QLED TV</keyword> that uses Quantum Mini LED. "Samsung designed the Quantum Mini LED to be 1/40 the height of a conventional LED," the company said. "The Quantum Mini LED has incredibly thin micro layers filled with many more LEDs." Samsung's Neo QLED TV also comes with Quantum Matrix technology that provides a 12-bit luminance scale with 4096 steps, which delivers a more precise and immersive viewing experience, and its Neo Quantum Processor that utilises artificial intelligence (AI) upscaling technology for optimised picture quality. Samsung said the Neo QLED TV would be available in 8K and 4K models and would be launched from the first quarter of the year. The industry insiders said Samsung and LG's launch of Mini LED TVs would push the two sides to go head-to-head in the premium TV market. In recent years, Samsung and LG have been locking horns over QLED TV and OLED TV which are different types of TVs. LG has been claiming that Samsung's QLED TV is merely a <keyword id="45114" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="LCD-TV">LCD TV</keyword> with a backlight panel that has an additional quantum dot (QD) sheet, while Samsung has been pointing out that LG's OLED TV has a problem of gradual degradation of pixels, also referred to as "burn-in" as the product uses organic material. The observers said the introduction of the Mini LED TV would help Samsung to defend its status as the world's top TV vendor until the company rolls out its premium TV sets with next-generation QD-OLED displays. According to data from market researcher Omdia, Samsung led the global TV market with a share of 33.1% in the third quarter of 2020 in terms of sales revenue. LG was the runner-up with a market share of 16.6%. "Samsung is hoping to increase the market share of its QLED TVs which are much more cost-competitive than OLED TVs via the integration of Mini LED backlights," TrendForce said in its recent report. "Samsung is targeting yearly shipments of more than two million Mini LED TVs next year in anticipation of high market demand." For LG, its Mini LED TVs are expected to boost the company's premium TV sales considering that they would come with more affordable prices than its flagship OLED TV. "With OLED at the pinnacle of LG's TV offerings with its self-lit pixels and independent dimming control, the arrival of LG's QNED Mini LED TVs offers a compelling option for consumers," LG said. The industry observers said the Mini LED market is expected to grow sharply over the coming years. According to market tracker Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), sales of Mini LED TVs are expected to reach nearly 10 million units in 2022 and above 15 million units in 2024. The picture quality on the panel is splendid regardless of the low cost and the panel type. You can't compare it to more expensive counterparts having OLED or QLED but the colour accuracy and tones look very close to natural in both HDR and SDR content. Even more impressive is that the blacks look great, which is an uncommon trait on IPS panels and the same goes for the viewing angles and dark scenes. It's been a go-to screen for me for quite some time for dozens of shows and movies that came out during the course. The HDR performance of the TV is quite impressive for the price but it falls short in some areas compared to slightly premium competitors from Philips and Vu which are priced around 80K, and at that price, the best bet is to go for the 55-inch OnePlus Q1 Pro. While there's no Dolby Vision support, the HDR 10 and 10+ does enhance the results for HDR content if supported. The colour reproduction and tones, sharpness and brightness are very impressive. Even for SDR content, the quality was at par with the best in this range, it shows evenly saturated colour tones and crisp details with ample brightness. There's also an option to change picture modes and other settings like brightness, warmth etc to suit your preference. But of all the modes, we liked the 'Movie' the best for watching shows and movies. It also upscales regular 24fps and 30fps content to 60fps without showing any sign of stutter with the help of MEMC. It's great to watch fast-moving content like sports and even movies that support a higher refresh rate. I did not notice any banding or clouding issue, which used to be a common trait on LED panels, but this one does a great job in that department. I would recommend you to keep the TV in a position where there's no light source on the opposite sides as you might see the reflection on the screen in dark scenes. Even with the peak brightness, the issue sustains and it can be seen in the pictures I took of the TV. If you're a gamer with any of the new consoles with support for high refresh rate at 4K resolution, this TV can do a fair job for gaming as well. it supports HDMI 2.1 with Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) which turns on as soon as you plug your console. I used my PS5 to play some new titles like Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Ghost of Tsushima and some multiplayer games like Fifa 21, and Rocket League and I didn't find a reason to complain unless your expectations are supremely high. It handles 60fps well, has great black levels and doesn't miss a single particle effect. Ghosts of Tsushima is a visual treat in itself and the TV doesn't upset in showing the beautiful horizons in their full glory. Details like the blowing wind, greenery, water and even combat sequences look great. Overall, this TV is tuned well for content ranging from animated cartoons to dark DC movies. Not only that, but gamers can also resort to this one if OLED and QLEDs are out of budget and the size matters more than the picture quality. Overall, the TV has a good panel for content consumption and gaming and this is where the praises for the TV come to an end as we will now venture into areas that have some issues that could affect your purchase decision. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Audio performance" comment="subhead" text="Audio performance">Audio performance</cmsannotation> As soon as I set up this TV, I went to YouTube to check the audio and I was a little disappointed. Not that I enjoy the audio now, but software updates over the months has improved the audio performance by a thick margin. The TV also supports Dolby Atmos, which means you can attach a supported soundbar or speaker if you wish to experience the best of what it has to offer. <div type="image" title="OnePlus TV Audio." msid="87667218" hostid="261"></div>The TV's audio is tuned in collaboration with Dynaudio and has two bottom-firing speaker units with 30W output. I am not a fan of built-in speakers on affordable TVs as the content nowadays is made for bigger and better speakers just like the screens. While the U1S does a fair job at voice clarity, loudness and definition, the bass response leaves you asking for more. You won't have the best experience watching a movie or even listening to a song unless you connect it to an external speaker. It's good enough for family members who watch daily soaps, cartoons, podcasts, news or even for gaming. So, investing in an external speaker is suggested only if you wish the get a theatre-like movie watching experience at home. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="User Interface and performance" comment="subhead" text="User Interface and performance">User Interface and performance</cmsannotation> Like all OnePlus TVs, the U1S also comes with Android TV 10 with a layer of OxygenPlay on top. It's a hybrid OS, which means you can operate in either of the two with a click of a button, which is a good addition as a preferential alternative. It offers tons of customisation options, modes and features but thankfully it doesn't make the interface look cluttered or ugly. Even kids and first time smart TV users can navigate through with ease. It offers multiple casting options like Miracast, Chromecast, and DLNA. There's also a seamless Google Assistant support that is accurate and fast, but at times it wakes up even when there's an 'Ok Google' advertisement on the TV. <div type="image" title="OnePlus TV UI." msid="87667205" hostid="261"></div>Other impressive features include the data saver mode, parental control using Connect app, and also screentime monitoring. The OnePlus Connect app not just acts as a remote control but also to play media using the phone. Lastly, the ecosystem that OnePlus is building with its accessories is also promising for the future. For example, those who own a OnePlus Watch can use it as a remote control, also the TV detects the TWS buds and enables quick pair when it's around the TV. However, we expect it to be more intuitive and seamless to call it a valuable addition to the overall experience. Especially, when they're restricted to OnePlus products that might not be the best investment for a user. The performance of the U1S is one area where the affordability of the TV becomes evident. While it did work smoothly initially, it did not keep it consistent over the past three months. It has a Mediatek MT9612 SoC with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Instances like switching between OxygenPlay and Android, opening apps like Netflix or Amazon Prime wasn't seamless as it stutters in between the process occasionally. The hiccups and lags are seen across the UI and more specifically in third party apps even those which come preinstalled. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Design, build and connectivity" comment="subhead" text="Design, build and connectivity">Design, build and connectivity</cmsannotation> The <keyword id="11344674" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="oneplus-tv-u1s" source="Orion">OnePlus TV U1S</keyword> comes with tabletop feet and wall mount options, but I chose the former in my usage. Like most large-sized thin TVs this one also wobbles, but the feet are of metal and hold it sturdily so it won't fall off unless it's pushed with force. Also, the feet are placed widely unlike some TVs that have the stand in the centre, which means you'll need to have a big TV stand to place it. <div type="image" title="OnePlus TV Stand." msid="87667311" hostid="261"></div> The build quality is at par with my expectations at this price and also the standard. The bezels are minimal, the ports are convenient to reach. It has 3 HDMI ports, 2 USB ports, an RF port, an AV port and an optical port. The remote control has a new design, a better build quality and is very ergonomic to use. The power buttons remain embedded in the OnePlus button, which does confuse anyone who uses the TV for the first time, but it's not a deal-breaker.
