And not all of it is tied to inflation or student loan debt.Money dysmorphia is "a negative and unrealistic perception of one's financial wellness or financial position," Amanda Clayman, a financial therapist who hosts Fresh Produce Media's Audible series "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.audible.com/pd/Emotional-Investment-Audiobook/B0CYN8HKKP">Emotional Investment</a>," told Business Insider. <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2024-02-06/-money-dysmorphia-traps-millennials-and-gen-zers">Nearly half of Gen Zers and millennials</a> have it, according to a recent Credit Karma survey.Money dysmorphia goes beyond wanting to pay off some credit card debt or to contribute more to a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/investing/what-is-401k">401(k)</a>. It's "pervasive worry, vigilance — like an internalized feeling of unsafety with money," Clayman said, even when there aren't pressing financial problems to solve.Clayman explained why younger generations are more likely to experience warped views around their finances — and might be more financially stable than they give themselves credit for.<h2 id="b115fdf1-75ec-4ac7-8796-99b79f67d739">Big life transitions bring on introspection</h2>In general, Clayman said that people who are prone to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-catastrophizing-how-to-stop-2023-8">catastrophizing</a> will "find that money is something that is very easy to worry about."Younger people, such as those in their mid-20s to mid-30s, are also going through more life transitions, she said. They might be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/financial-therapist-helped-me-budget-for-month-wedding-cost-2024-7">saving up for a wedding</a>, house, career change, or family.While all these things are a rite of passage, Clayman said "older generations were working, in many cases, in a different environmental context, financially." <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/financial-therapist-says-budgeting-apps-harm-saving-money-2024-4">Budgeting was simpler</a> before the clutter of Venmo and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/credit-card-rewards-points-friends-fights-brunch-money-payment-venmo-2024-7">credit card points</a>.Young people might also not have a clear barometer of how much they have to have saved up, other than a lot. Clayman said that the more ambiguous or abstract a financial goal is, the easier it is to feel like you're nowhere near the goalpost."Once you're in a later stage of life, you have a little bit more information that you can access," she said. Older generations have more life experience, making them less likely to experience unwarranted panic about their money.<h2 id="9f6232da-5dd4-4981-a699-7dea64d66d33">Self-comparison fuels money dysmorphia</h2>Previous generations also didn't contend with the warping powers of social media. It's easy for younger people to create nebulous financial benchmarks when their online activity fuels so much self-comparison, Clayman said."We can never know all of the intimate details of a person's financial picture and their history," she said. "We are creating a pattern that tells a story based on the incomplete information that we're picking up."That couple with the dream wedding could be in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/indian-wedding-debt-budget-money-advice-photos-2023-10">credit card debt</a>. That friend who goes on four international trips a year could have a trust fund.Plus, because <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/mental-health/does-social-media-cause-depression">high social media use is linked to lower moods</a>, those who spend more time on TikTok might be served more content that confirms their negative self-belief, Clayman said. "All we have to do is open Instagram and be flooded with confirmation that there are lots of people out there who are having fun and going places."Constantly being bombarded with images of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-york-city-gaudy-gilded-age-restaurants-bars-wall-street-2024-4">luxury restaurants</a> and impeccable homes can perpetuate a cycle of undue worry and doubt about one's own finances.<h2 id="afc67758-07b3-4cee-9c57-ce097f0a01f5">Some expectations around money are dated</h2>While parents can teach their kids valuable lessons about saving, not all the money rules that pertained to Gen Xers and boomers translate to today's economy.For example, generations growing up in the post-war era had pension plans, while<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/investing/how-much-do-i-need-to-retire#understanding-retirement-needs"> retirement is self-funded now</a>, Clayman said. Plus, factors like inflation and higher cost of living can make it harder for younger people to stick to strict saving schedules.It's not to say that all past advice about money is wrong, she said. But if following it leads to adopting behaviors like money-hoarding or workaholism, it does more harm than good.These behaviors "are an attempt to feel better and to quiet the level of anxiety that we're experiencing," Clayman said. Why so many Gen Zers and millennials have 'money dysmorphia' — even if they are financially better off than they realize

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Priya Bajaj and Darshan Shah left India to move to the US a few years ago.</li><li>Despite some initial adjustments, they say corporate America provided a work-life balance they didn't have before.</li></ul>When Priya Bajaj received an offer to transfer from <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google">Google</a> in India to the US, she thought she would try it out for six months — she didn't expect to be here seven years later."I had no reason to move here because my whole family, everyone was back in India," Bajaj said. "And I was also dating him," she said about her now-husband.Bajaj's husband, Darshan Shah, worked as a Sony Pictures producer in Mumbai when she received the offer. He said he was happy with his life in India so the two agreed to do <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/dating-long-distance-relationship-online-success-married-switzerland-2024-7">long distance</a> while she tried out the new job.Bajaj first landed in the US in January 2017 and said she didn't adjust until about a year later. At that point, she and Shah got married, and she convinced him to join her in the US.<h2 id="612eb124-665d-47fe-baca-f3820f7bbf8d">Corporate America was a cultural shock</h2>When they <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/british-woman-moved-us-shares-what-surprised-her-2024-7">first moved to the US,</a> Bajaj and Shah struggled with adapting to living together, going through the immigration process, and finding stable work.After relocating, Shah searched for a video production role in the media and entertainment industry but found the market for those jobs difficult without local contacts. He ultimately shifted his focus to video content production and marketing in tech and worked at a couple of startups. He then took a contract role at Google before landing a job at Indeed.Bajaj said Shah had to adjust to the interview process. She said interviews in India focus on past experience, while in the US, you are expected to sell yourself and talk about what you can bring to the table.Even though Bajaj had a job secured, she also struggled when she first moved."The first six, seven months were not that easy," Bajaj said, adding that from a cultural perspective "working here was very, very difficult."Bajaj and Shah both felt that took time to grasp the cultural nuances of corporate America. In India, she said work place was very much a "community" where her coworkers were her best friends. Bajaj and Shah said they both had to learn the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-to-colorado-mountains-mistake-left-2024-3">boundaries of professionalism in the US</a>.<h2 id="965978c3-8cd9-4e7f-9a82-a0b20e4b5c6c">The lifestyle of a 9-5 opened up opportunities for them</h2>Despite the initial struggle, Bajaj said once she adjusted, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-to-us-from-india-big-tech-changed-me-2024-7">she wanted to stay in the US and see where her career could go.</a>Bajaj said that in India, people tend to go above and beyond and the general instinct in the workplace is to always say yes, especially for those early in their career. Many Indians who work corporate jobs also have cooking and cleaning staff to help with basic house tasks, which also allows them to work longer hours, she said."You can do 18 hours of work in India because all you are doing is working," Bajaj said. "Your chores are taken care of, your food is ready. You don't have to take care of any, cleaning, cooking groceries."Bajaj and Shah said they now have <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-working-in-bengaluru-the-silicon-valley-of-india-2023-7">more control of their time.</a> Shah was able to focus more on his health because he had more time outside of work and Bajaj has the opportunity to do things like be on a board, speak at an event, and create content.<h2 id="6bf2fea9-6951-4236-b575-98d942c4cb5d">Moving means starting over again — and it's not for everyone</h2>Bajaj and Shah's move to the US opened up opportunities for them outside their full-time jobs. Bajaj and Shah used their free time to start a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.itsokyaar.com/">platform</a> for South Asian immigrants called It's Ok Yaar, which means "It's okay, friend.""We're hustlers," Bajaj said. "We like to do a lot of things other than our full time jobs."Bajaj said if she hadn't had an opportunity in the US, she may have tried out another country. She and Shah enjoy being pushed out of their comfort zones.But moving to the US isn't for everyone.Bajaj warns that navigating the job market requires networking and being able to handle rejections. Bajaj said that if you already have a comfortable life and "made it" in your home country, you should ask yourself if you're ready to start all over again.<meta content="cms.next" name="cmsei" />

North Korea's economy is booming thanks to its arms trade with Russia

The mound burial system of the Ahom dynasty in Assam, Moidams was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List under the category of Cultural Property on Friday. The decision was taken during the ongoing 46th World Heritage Committee (WHC) session held in the national capital, Delhi. UNESCO will examine the proposals of 27 sites for inscription on the World Heritage List, the state of conservation of 124 sites already inscribed on the World Heritage List, and the List of World Heritage in Danger. The World Heritage Committee is one of the two bodies governing the Convention for the Protection of the World's Cultural and Natural Heritage. It is composed of the representatives of 21 states, elected from the 195 states parties to the Convention. In the ongoing session, from July 23 to July 25, the Committee will examine the state of conservation of the 124 sites already inscribed on the World Heritage List, 57 of which are also on the List of World Heritage in Danger. Similarly, from July 26 to July 29, the Committee will examine the dossiers of 27 sites proposed for inscription on the World Heritage List. The sites will be examined according to three categories. The three categories are natural, mixed, and cultural. Reacting to the news Assam Chief Minister Himmant Biswa Sharma said, "The Moidams make it to the UNESCO World Heritage list under the category Cultural Property. A great win for Assam. Thank You Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, members of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee and the people of Assam." "The Moidams of Charaideo embody the deep spiritual belief, rich civilisational heritage and architectural prowess of Assam's Tai-Ahom community. Apart from the fact this announcement has been made from the soil of Bharat, its entry also stands out for 2 more reasons," he added in a post on X. "It is the first time a site from the North East has made it to the UNESCO World Heritage List under the Cultural Category. After Kaziranga and Manas National Parks, it is Assam's 3rd World Heritage Site. I urge all of you to come and experience Awesome Assam," he further said. The Moidams are the burial mounds of the Ahom kings, queens and nobles. The word Moidam is derived from the Tai word Phrang-Mai-Dam or Mai-Tam. Phrang-Mai means to put into the grave or to bury and Dam means the spirit of the dead. Though Moidams are found in all the districts of upper Assam, Charaideo, the first capital of the Ahoms was the necropolis of almost all the Ahom Royals. Charaideo is situated 28 km east of Sivasagar. The first king of the Ahoms Chau-lung Siu-ka-pha was buried at Charaideo after his death observing all the Tai-Ahom religious rites and rituals. <meta content="cms.next" name="cmsei" />

"Every year, Apple seeks to deepen its manufacturing capabilities with partners in India. Production of Pro models is something that has been under consideration for the last couple of years. This year, Apple will manufacture the Pro and Pro Max models in India to make sure the India-assembled iPhone 16 Pro models are available in the country after the launch,” the report said, citing a source familiar with the matter. <h2>Initial devices to be imported</h2>As the iPhone 16 Pro models will be produced sometime after its launch, the initial devices will be imported, and this will cost Apple less this year as the Indian government has reduced the<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/budget/news/budget-2024-customs-duty-on-mobile-phones-chargers-and-more-reduced/articleshow/111962490.cms"> basic customs duty (BCD)</a> on mobile phones as part of Budget 2024-25. Apple saw robust sales of around $8 billion in the country in FY24, an increase of around 33% year-on-year. Apple shipped over 10 million iPhones in 2023 in India, up from 6 million in 2022. The company recorded a 6% market share in the Indian smartphone market in 2023. Apple to manufacture iPhone 16 Pro models in India soon after launch

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has recognised 1.40 lakh entities as startups as of June 30 this year, the parliament was informed on Friday. These startups are eligible for a host of incentives, including income tax benefits under the Startup India action plan, which was announced in 2016. The government, with the objective of building a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation, startups and encouraging investments in the startup ecosystem of the country, had launched the Startup India initiative on 16th January 2016. "DPIIT has recognised 1,40,803 entities as startups as on 30th June 2024," Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasdada said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. Out of this, over 25,000 are recognised in Maharashtra. It is followed by Karnataka (15,019), Delhi (14,734), Uttar Pradesh (13,299) and Gujarat (11,436). The minister also informed in a different question that under the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme, Rs 90.52 crore was approved to startups by incubators as on June 30, as against Rs 186.19 crore in 2023. The total number of startups selected by the incubators under this scheme was 592 as against 1025 in 2023. Similarly, under Fund of Funds for Startups, Rs 805.86 crore was invested in the startups by supported AIFs (Alternate Investment Funds) as on June 30, as against Rs 3,366.48 crore in 2023. The total number of startups supported by the AIFs was 96 as on June 30 as against 148 last year. The minister added that under the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Startups, Rs 154.60 crore loan was guaranteed by the member institutions as on June 30 this year, as against Rs 271.49 crore in 2023. The total number of loans guaranteed to startup borrowers was 75 as on June 30, as against 107 last year. Replying to another question, the minister said over 5.7 lakh sellers and service providers on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). ONDC, a section 8 company, is an initiative of the DPIIT. It is aimed at promoting open networks for all aspects of the exchange of goods and services over digital or electronic networks. Notably, ONDC is not an app or a platform but rather a digital public infrastructure, built on a network model. "ONDC has witnessed rapid expansion over a span of a year from 1,000 plus transactions in January 2023 to 9.9 million plus transactions in June 2024," he said adding that the network has 71 Seller applications, 22 buyer applications, and 16 logistics service providers.<meta content="cms.next" name="cmsei" />

From hefty non-refundable deposits to restrictions on pet movement within residential areas, the city's pet-owning residents have had to navigate a complex web of regulations. However, a recent set of guidelines issued by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) marks a significant shift in favour of pet owners. In response to mounting complaints from pet owners and caretakers, the BBMP introduced comprehensive guidelines for RWAs and apartment owners. These guidelines aim to address the management of community animals and protect pet owners from being forced to abandon their pets or comply with unreasonable restrictions. <h2>Key points from the BBMP's guidelines include:</h2>No bans on pets: RWAs and apartment owners are prohibited from banning pets within residential layouts, common areas, or lifts, provided they are on a leash. All citizens have an equal right to care for the environment and choose pets of their choice. Feeding community animals: Public institutions, educational facilities, tech parks, and similar establishments must arrange food and drinking water for street animals, placing them in safe locations on their premises. Scheduled pet walks: Associations must set schedules for pet walking in the mornings and evenings and report any unauthorised breeding centres to BBMP. Sensex and Nifty indices increased significantly during the day to close in greens. While Sensex rose around 1,292.92 points to cross the 81,000 mark and close at 81,332.72, Nifty also rose 1.76% to close the day at 24,834.85 points. NSE's total market capitalization rose to Rs 452.93 lakh crore, and on BSE, it jumped to $5.46 trillion on July 26, 2024. Shri Ram Finance (up by 9.52%), Cipla (up by 5.76%), Divis Labs (up by 5.39%), Bharti Airtel (up by 4.32%) and Apollo Hospitals (up by 4.14%) were amongst the leading gainers during the day. On the other hand, ONGC (down by 1.04%), Nestle India (down by 0.11%) and HDFC bank (down by 0.02%) were amongst the leading laggards. Out of the 2,771 stocks traded during the day, 1,831 saw advances while 855 saw declines. Another 85 remained unchanged. 199 stocks hit their 52-week high price, while 9 stocks hit their yearly lows as well. 163 stocks remained in the upper circuit during the day, while 21 stocks hit the lower circuit. Most broad market indices inched up gains of over 1% during the trade, except for India VIX, which fell about 2.93%. Nifty50 was up by 1.76%, Next50 was up by 1,65% and Nifty 100, 200 and 500 rose 1,71%, 1.73% and 1.64% respectively. Nifty midcap 50 inched up 2.24%, while midcap 100 grew 1.81% during the day. Midcap 150 also inched up 1.72%, small cap 50 rose 1.15% and midcap select, total market and microcap rose 2.17%, 1.61% and 1.07% respectively. As for sectoral indices, metal was the biggest gainer, rising 3.01%. Auto inched up 2.43%, financial services rose 1.16% and IT, media and pharma rose 2.3%, 1.68% and 2.36% respectively. PSU banks were up by 1.66%, realty rose 1.15% and healthcare and consumer durables also inched up 2.73% and 1.5% respectively. Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd noted that today, the market experienced a significant rally, gaining nearly two percent and reversing the recent negativity. The upbeat tone was evident from the start, with substantial buying in heavyweights across various sectors further driving the momentum. Consequently, both the Nifty and Sensex closed near their highs at 24,834 and 81,332, respectively. "This surge was fueled by improved sentiment following robust performances in IT and Metal stocks, as well as significant rollovers to the August series. Broader indices also reflected this strength, showing substantial gains. The current trend suggests that bulls are in control, and we are likely to see further advances in the coming sessions. Every few weeks or months, the media reports on a new study that tantalisingly dangles the possibility of a new drug that promises us longer, healthier lives. The latest study centres around a drug involved in targeting interleukin-11, a protein involved in inflammation. Blocking this protein appeared to help mice stave off disease and extend their life by more than 20%. If only defying the ravages of time could be achieved through such a simple and effort-free way - by taking a pill. But as is so often the case, the real-world significance of these findings falls a fair way short of the hype. The role of inflammation in disease and ageing Chronic inflammation in the body plays a role in causing disease and accelerating ageing. In fact, a relatively new label has been coined to represent this: "inflammaging". While acute inflammation is an important response to infection or injury, if inflammation persists in the body, it can be very damaging. A number of lifestyle, environmental and societal drivers contribute to chronic inflammation in the modern world. These are largely the factors we already know are associated with disease and ageing, including poor diet, lack of exercise, obesity, stress, lack of sleep, lack of social connection and pollution. While addressing these issues directly is one of the keys to addressing chronic inflammation, disease and ageing, there are a number of research groups also exploring how to treat chronic inflammation with pharmaceuticals. Their goal is to target and modify the molecular and chemical pathways involved in the inflammatory process itself. What the latest research shows This new interleukin-11 research was conducted in mice and involved a number of separate components. In one component of this research, interleukin-11 was genetically knocked out in mice. This means the gene for this chemical mediator was removed from these mice, resulting in the mice no longer being able to produce this mediator at all. In this part of the study, the mice's lives were extended by over 20 per cent, on average. Another component of this research involved treating older mice with a drug that blocks interleukin-11. Injecting this drug into 75-week old mice (equivalent to 55-year-old humans) was found to extend the life of mice by 22-25%. These treated mice were less likely to get cancer and had lower cholesterol levels, lower body weight and improved muscle strength and metabolism. From these combined results, the authors concluded, quite reasonably, that blocking interleukin-11 may potentially be a key to mitigating age-related health effects and improving lifespan in both mice and humans. Why you shouldn't be getting excited just yet There are several reasons to be cautious of these findings. First and most importantly, this was a study in mice. It may be stating the obvious, but mice are very different to humans. As such, this finding in a mouse model is a long way down the evidence hierarchy in terms of its weight. Research shows only about 5% of promising findings in animals carry over to humans. Put another way, approximately 95% of promising findings in animals may not be translated to specific therapies for humans. Second, this is only one study. Ideally, we would be looking to have these findings confirmed by other researchers before even considering moving on to the next stage in the knowledge discovery process and examining whether these findings may be true for humans. We generally require a larger body of evidence before we get too excited about any new research findings and even consider the possibility of human trials. Third, even if everything remains positive and follow-up studies support the findings of this current study, it can take decades for a new finding like this to be translated to successful therapies in humans. Until then, we can focus on doing the things we already know make a huge difference to health and longevity: eating well, exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, reducing stress and nurturing social relationships. <meta content="cms.next" name="cmsei" />

For a country struggling to fight brutal poverty, internal conflicts, political instability, and bureaucratic inefficiency, the 1990s was a breath of fresh air. The economy was liberalised, the IT industry started booming, a telecom revolution was underway, a successful nuclear test was conducted, and the emergence of strong regional parties gave voice to the politically weak sections. But on May 3, 1999, as Pakistani intrusion was reported at the Kargil borders, India was on the cusp of losing a decade-long progress to an unprovoked war. Over the next three months, the Indian armed forces fought with all might not just to defend the borders, but to show to the world that its preference for peace is not a sign of weakness. Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorated annually on July 26th, stands as a testament to India's indomitable spirit and the unwavering courage of its armed forces. This day marks the culmination of the Kargil War, a conflict that tested the nation's mettle and forged a legacy of heroism. Addressing the 25th celebrations of the Kargil War victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the Kargil War win is neither the victory of any government in power nor of any political group, it is the heritage and the victory of 140 crore people of India. <h2>The genesis</h2>Despite signing the Lahore Declaration in February 1999 for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue, a covert infiltration by Pakistani troops into the Kargil sector of Jammu and Kashmir in May 1999 triggered a crisis. Disguised as militants, they occupied strategic positions along the Line of Control (LoC), aiming to disrupt the Kashmir-Ladakh link. The Indian Army, upon discovering the intrusion from local shepherds, launched Operation Vijay, a counter-offensive to reclaim the occupied heights. <h2>Battling against nature and the enemy</h2>The Kargil War was a gruelling ordeal, fought in the unforgiving Himalayan terrain. Soldiers battled not only the enemy but also the harsh, high-altitude conditions. The covert movement of the Pak army helped them position themselves at strategically advantageous, high-altitude positions. As temperatures plummeted and oxygen levels dwindled, the rugged mountains posed immense logistical challenges to the ground forces. Yet, the Indian Army, driven by patriotism and a relentless determination to protect the nation's sovereignty, pressed on. <h2>Heroes of the Kargil War</h2>The Kargil War produced a pantheon of heroes whose bravery continues to inspire generations. Captain Vikram Batra, with his iconic battle cry "Yeh Dil Mange More," led his troops to capture Point 4875, a pivotal victory. Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey, displaying exceptional courage, made the supreme sacrifice while defending his post. These brave soldiers, among many others, epitomized the indomitable spirit of the Indian Army. The Kargil War galvanized the nation. People from all walks of life came together to support the armed forces. The collective outpouring of patriotism and solidarity fueled the soldiers' resolve. Nearly 500 Indian soldiers lost their lives battling the enemy in unforgiving Himalayan terrains. The war also highlighted the sacrifices made by the families of the martyrs, whose courage and resilience were equally inspiring. <h2>A legacy of valour</h2>Kargil Vijay Diwas is more than just a commemoration; it is a reaffirmation of India's commitment to peace and security. The sacrifices made by the brave soldiers who fought in the Kargil War will forever be etched in the nation's memory. Their unwavering courage and determination continue to inspire future generations to serve the country with dedication and honour. As India celebrates the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas today, it is essential to remember the heroes who laid down their lives for the nation. Their supreme sacrifice will never be forgotten by a country on its path to glory on a global stage. <h2>A continued tragedy</h2>The Kargil War left behind a deadly legacy along with long-term trauma among the local residents and the defence personnel who fought valiantly. As per a TOI report, unexploded bombs scattered across the region continue to pose a significant threat to the local population. In 2023 — 24 years after the tragic war — a total of around 336 such unexploded bombs were reportedly neutralised by the Army. Residents live in constant fear of accidental detonations, especially during construction or excavation work. These incidents have resulted in multiple casualties in the past several years, including the tragic death of a young child. Despite the passage of 25 years, the Army remains actively engaged in defusing these dangerous remnants of war.
