Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong witnessed a whopping 73% jump in the highest salary offer received this placement season — at ₹ 48.5 lakh per annum.- The top 50% of the cohort bagged offers above ₹23 lakh.
- As many as 60 companies visited the campus this year, including Cognizant, Capgemini, BirlaSoft, HSBC Bank and Thomson Reuters.
- Consulting and Strategy was the most sought after domain this year, accounting for 29% of the total offers.
In fact, the average compensation also increased to ₹18.7 lakh, up by 11% as compared to last year.
As many as 60 companies visited the campus this year, including Cognizant, Capgemini, BirlaSoft, HSBC Bank and Thomson Reuters among others. The list also includes first time recruiters — Aditya Birla Capital, ByteDance, FIITJEE, Mahindra & Mahindra and international employers like ShopUp, and Tillomed Laboratories, hiring for operations and consulting profiles.
Consulting & Strategy accounts for almost a third of the total job offers
As expected, consulting and strategy was the most sought after domain this year, accounting for 29% of the total offers. The sector offered the highest salary packages at an average remuneration of ₹24 lakh per annum. This includes roles like investment banking, supply chain management, advisory, analytics and corporate strategy.
Other job offers came from sectors such as finance, analytics, general management, Human Resources, IT, operations, sales and marketing.
The maximum number of job offers came from top multinationals like — ByteDance, Cognizant, Deloitte, JP Morgan and TATA Steel.
Highest stipend at ₹3 lakh during summer placements
The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. The graduates also secured pre-placement offers from Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Emami Group, Titan and more.
During the summer placements too, the institute saw a 17% surge in the average stipend offered to the interns — from ₹1.1 lakh to ₹1.3 lakh for two months. The highest stipend secured by the students stood at ₹3 lakh.
General management roles witnessed an increase in the number of offers as well as the stipend. On the other hand, sales and marketing was the most sought after sector during summer internships, accounting for 33% of the offers, followed by consulting profiles.
