A day after PM Modi interacted with CMs to discuss a staggered exit from Coronavirus lockdown, the total number of Coronavirus cases in India mounted to 29,435 on Tuesday (April 28).

Of the total cases, 21,632 are active, 6,868 people recovered, and 934 people succumbed to the disease, according to the data of the Union Health Ministry.

Maharashtra remained the worst-hit state with a total number of cases rising to 8,590, followed by Gujarat which reported 3,548 cases and Delhi which reported 3,108 cases.

Besides the trio, other states with high cases include Madhya Pradesh with 2,168, Rajasthan with 2,262, Tamil Nadu with 1,937 and Uttar Pradesh with 1,955.

Lockdown likely to extend in MP after May 3

Madhya Pradesh readied itself for a longer haul under lockdown beyond May 3 as 75 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours, 31 of them in Indore. The state's coronavirus tally touched 2,168 on Tuesday.

Seven more patients succumbed to COVID-19 till Monday evening taking the death toll in the state to 110. Of these, three deaths were reported in Indore, three in Bhopal and one in Mandsaur, officials said. Indore alone accounts for 60 deaths. Indore recorded 31 new cases, followed by Bhopal and Ujjain at 13 each, Jabalpur at 10, Five at Raisen and one each at Hoshangabad and Dewas.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who took part in the prime minister's video conference with leaders of nine states, directed the officials to prepare proposals for corona treatment, preparations for conducting economic activities as per the Centre's instructions after May 3.

2 distributing food in south Delhi test positive, several lanes sealed

Two people involved in food distribution among the needy in Mehrauli area of south Delhi tested positive for coronavirus on Monday leading several lanes being sealed by the South district administration.

According to an order signed by SDM (Mehrauli) Sonalika Jiwani on Monday, COVID positive cases have been found in Jamali Masjid Baoli, near Pahalwan Dhaba in Ward number 1, Mehrauli.

Since the area was densely populated, she has ordered the entire affected area— Nirankari Gali, Nakshtra Gali, Nala Boring Gali, Rawan Wali Gali, Jamali Masjid baoli, Dargah Gurudwara wali Gali, Thane wali Gali and Terminal wali gali - be sealed as one containment zone.

4 Bengal districts declared red zones, 287 areas in Kolkata containment zones

The West Bengal government on Monday released a list, saying four districts, including Kolkata, have been declared as red zones in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, and 287 areas in the metropolis identified as containment zones.

Howrah, North 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur districts have been declared as red zones, besides Kolkata.

Eleven districts have been identified as orange zones, while eight are in the green zone, as per the list released by the state government. Those in the orange zone are South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Kalimpong, Nadia, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Murshidabad and Malda.

The eight districts in the green zone are Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakhin Dinajpur, Birbhum, Bankura, Purulia and Jhargram.

As many as 287 areas in Kolkata, the majority of which are in the north and central parts of the city, have been identified as containment zones.

4-month-old dead child's father tests positive for Coronavirus

Two days after a four-month-old baby was 'brought dead' to a government-run hospital in Greater Noida, officials on Monday confirmed that his father has tested positive for the infection.

However, the authorities at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) denied that the child died due to coronavirus as his sample was declared negative on Monday.

The child's mother has also tested negative for the infection, they said.

The boy was brought dead to the hospital, which has a dedicated facility for treating COVID-19 patients, at 10 am on April 25, senior GIMS officials said.

COVID-19 positive doctor dies at a private hospital in West Bengal

A 69-year-old doctor, who had tested positive for COVID-19, died on Monday night at a private hospital in West Bengal, hospital sources said.

The doctor, who was a well-known orthopaedic, was admitted to a private hospital on April 14, they said. "He tested positive for COVID-19 and was on ventilator since April 17. His condition deteriorated, and he passed away on Monday at around 9:15 pm," a PTI source said.

On Sunday, a senior government doctor who was on COVID-19 duty and tested positive died at the same private hospital.

Dr Biplab Kanti Dasgupta (60), posted as assistant director health services (equipment and stores), was initially admitted to Beliaghata Infectious Diseases hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Salt Lake on April 18, where he succumbed to the disease.

Karnataka to draw lockdown exit plan soon

The Karnataka government would draw an exit plan ahead of the extended lockdown's ending on May 3, an official said on Monday.

"The state government will draw an exit plan this week and submit it to the Centre for approval and implementation after the 19-day extended lockdown ends on May 3," the official told IANS here.


The blueprint for the exit plan is in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's advice to the southern state during his interaction with Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa through video conferencing earlier in the day.

"The Chief Minister, in turn, held marathon discussions with the Deputy Commissioners of the districts across the state through video conference for the exit plan to be drawn as per their status as COVID hotspots or green spots," said the official.

The state's 30 districts have been divided into 4 - 6 red, 5 each in orange and yellow, and 14 green, as they have zero coronavirus cases till date.
