Instagram is testing a new feature called ‘Candid Challenge’ that will send a notification to the users and prompt them to click a picture randomly once a day. It is said that this new feature is similar to the BeReal application. The new Instagram Candid Challenge feature is being compared to BeReal because it is the first-of-a-kind app that sends a notification to the users to the camera with a time bracket of two minutes and prompts them to take pictures of the surroundings.

Like the popular short video application TikTok, Instagram changed its strategy from a long-form IGTV format to TikTok-like shorts called Reels. Meta also picked up the story feature from Snapchat and added it to almost all its platforms. Since BeReal is gaining popularity, Instagram could have plans to replicate the USP of the app.

This new Candid Challenge feature was first seen by Alessandro Paluzzi, a reverse engineer and a mobile developer.

Despite releasing similar features and using similar interfaces to its competitors like BeReal and Tiktok, Instagram's popularity is still growing. It is on track to build the platform and reach 2.5 billion users by 2023. On the other hand, BeReal's monthly active users have increased from 921,000 in July 2021 to 21.6 million in July 2022. Earlier, Instagram also introduced a Dual Camera feature copied from the BeReal application. These applications can be a great competition with common features and a huge user base.

This feature is not accessible to the users, and it is currently not confirmed by when this feature will roll out. Or whether it will be rolled out.
