Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that may have a huge impact on how we message. The popular messaging app is currently testing an option that will allow you to edit messages even after sending them.

According to a $4 by WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp is reportedly testing an edit option. This will allow you to edit messages after you have sent them, allowing you to easily fix typos and errors in your messages.
Here’s how the edit message option will work
At the moment, it looks like all you have to do to edit a message is select it and click on the three-dots menu at the top right corner. This will bring up the menu with Info, Copy and Edit options.

Once you click the “Edit” button, you will be able to edit the message using the textbox.

At the moment, it is not known if the recipient will be informed that the message has been edited or if they will be able to view the edit history of the messages.

Similarly, the time till which you will be able to edit the messages after sending them and whether you will be able to edit them once the recipient has seen them.
Edit button could be misused
There are a lot of ways the edit button could be misused. The first is editing messages after the recipient has read them or replied to them. This can be used to misinterpret messages or manipulate conversations.

If WhatsApp prevents you from editing the messages once they have been opened by the recipient, the edit button will become a tool to check whether the other person has read your message even when they have turned off read receipts.
Other upcoming WhatsApp features
There are several features that are currently being tested by WhatsApp. One of the major upcoming features is the $4, which will allow users to use one WhatsApp account on more than one smartphone.

In addition to this, WhatsApp is also $4 on bringing download timers, polls and an improved drawing tool to the app.
