India’s biggest mobile operator, <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword>, has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against its former employee for stealing confidential data to help upcoming Reliance Jio Infocomm. 
 
Bharti Airtel alleged that Yasir Majid, who left the company in April this year, had copied and downloaded confidential information for the possible use of Jio before leaving the company. 
 "(Yasir Majid) after having been relieved from the services of the company (Airtel), took up employment with M/s <keyword id="1661076" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio-Infocomm-Ltd-">Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd.</keyword>..It thus became evident that the said Mr Yasir Majid downloaded, copied and extracted the aforementioned confidential financial data/information of the company for his own use and the use thereof by his current employer M/s Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., who is a business competitor of the company," said the FIR filed by the police, a copy of which was viewed by Economic Times. 
 
Majid had joined Jio on April 27 this year and the report is dated June 22, filed in the Infocity police station in Bhubaneswar. 
The FIR stated that the confidential information was valuable for the business competitor of the company, which could be used to form its business strategy. 
 
The said data included details of locations of Airtel's base stations used to transmit airwaves and plans for future installations of such equipment. 
 
News report in ET stated that the data was highly confidential and had financial information about the company's BTS wise activation gross revenue details for the Jammu &amp; Kashmir service area. A power point presentation used at the zonal business manager's meeting on February 15 was also there. 
 
Majid, who was with the company for nearly 10 years in Jammu &amp; Kashmir, was transferred to Odisha on March 2 as the distribution head of the circle. Majid subsequently resigned his position on April 13, to be effective April 24. 
 
"As a responsible corporate, Reliance Jio lays the greatest emphasis on ethical conduct by all its employees. It is an integral part of our Corporate Value System. We will inquire into this matter," a spokesperson for Reliance Jio Infocomm said in a statement. 
 
Speaking to ET, Majid denied any wrongdoing. "I have already told Airtel twice today (Wednesday) that I did not transfer any data. I have done nothing illegal. They (Airtel) said they will again have a chat with me tomorrow (Thursday)." He added that Jio authorities hadn't spoken to him on this matter. 
 
Airtel will face a tiff competition from Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio, which will launch commercial 4G operations during December.

"We refer to the disclosure made by Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited ('RJIL'), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company, dated March 18, 2020 regarding approval of the Scheme of Arrangement amongst RJIL and certain classes of its creditors (the 'Scheme') by the Hon'ble National Company Law Tribunal, Ahmedabad Bench, for transfer of certain identified liabilities to the Company," RIL said in a BSE filing. The company neither disclosed the name of the creditors nor the quantum of liabilities. "Accordingly, the Identified Liabilities of RJIL stand transferred to the Company. There shall be no impact on the consolidated debt of the Company on account of assumption of the Identified Liabilities of RJIL," the filing said. Shares of RIL closed at Rs 968.85 a unit, down by 3.97 per cent compared to the previous close, at BSE on Wednesday.

Now, to maintain its lead and win this fight, <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> is going to unleash aggressive 4G bundled offers. 
 Despite being the leading operator, Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> is struggling to revive its slowing data revenue growth and boost penetration amid rising competitive intensity. 
 "It's difficult to compete with a free services offer and we expect <keyword id="2003276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword>'s full-fledged price launch to happen sometime in December, but we too will come up with aggressive 4G bundled packs to take them on shortly," Gopal Vittal, MD Airtel, told ET. 
 As per reports, <keyword id="6354504" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>’s free service offer had put an element of softness in Airtel’s data revenue growth, adding that he expected the new 4G rival to grab 40 million customers by December-end. Bharti Airtel's data realisation dipped 10% sequentially in the September quarter. Year-on-year data revenue growth of nearly 24% in the quarter was its slowest so far. 
 
A 5% on year fall in net profit in September quarter was reported 
 Meawhile, Airtel also plans on approaching the <keyword id="6356988" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TRAI">TRAI</keyword> to clear all the confusion regarding Point of Interconnections (PoIs). The company claims to have provided more PoIs than any other teleco. 
 Vittal said that that confusion at the Trai’s end over the issue of providing PoIs to <keyword id="1699939" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio-Infocomm">Jio Infocomm</keyword>. 
 
"Airtel's PoI augmentation for Jio has been nothing short of staggering as the number of E1s (interconnect points) provided to the company within a mere five weeks is 2.5 times the levels offered to any other operator in India. Airtel, he said, would shortly go back to Trai and telecom department to clear up any confusion on the PoI issue, adding that the company is confident that they will take "an objective view" on the matter,” Vittal told ET. 
 Trai had recommended a combined penalty of Rs 3,050 crore on Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India and <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> as a fine for not providing enough PoIs to Jio Infocomm. 
 
Trai, however, recently gave Jio a clean chit and said its tariff plans including free voice for life is permissible and compliant with rules.

 "Reliance <keyword id="2003276" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jio">Jio</keyword> in meeting with Telecom Minister (<keyword id="6357016" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Manoj-Sinha">Manoj Sinha</keyword>) has committed to installing 45,000 mobile towers in next 6 months to further strengthen its network. The company has said that it has plans to invest Rs 1 lakh crore over a period of 4 years and the new towers are part of this investment," an official source told <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword>. 
 No immediate comments were received from <keyword id="1648130" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reliance-Jio-Infocomm-Limited">Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited</keyword> (<keyword id="1585811" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="RJIL">RJIL</keyword>) on the matter. 
 
The source said that RJIL informed the minister that it has already invested Rs 1.6 lakh crore in the networks and installed 2.82 lakh base stations across the country covering 18,000 cities and 2 lakh villages. 
 "Jio said that it has made all effort to provide good consumer experience but non-availability of the point of interconnection from <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword>, Vodafone and Idea has led to high call failure rate on its network. Minister (<keyword id="6358012" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sinha">Sinha</keyword>) then directed telecom operators to resolve PoI issue among themselves at the earliest," the source said.

Reliance Jio launches JioSpaceFiber: India's first satellite-based gigabit broadband service

Radisys Corporation, a subsidiary of Jio Platforms, signed a definitive agreement with US-based <keyword id="2512697" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="airspan" source="Orion">Airspan</keyword> Networks Holdings for acquisition of "Mimosa Networks for USD 60 million on a debt free, cash free basis," the companies said in a statement. While Jio Platforms is the owner of India's biggest telecom firm, <keyword id="1543410" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-jio-infocomm" source="Orion">Reliance Jio Infocomm</keyword>, Mimosa has a portfolio of point-to-multi-point products based on WiFi-5 and the newer WiFI 6E technologies as well as related accessories. "These solutions have use cases in the backhaul requirements for 5G and FTTX/ FWA rollouts," the statement said. "Jio has been a major customer of Mimosa." The deal comes at a time when countries across the world are looking to move away from Chinese technology. Airspan acquired Mimosa in 2018 to target cost-effective fixed wireless access network connections. Mimosa's product development, manufacturing, and sales teams of 56 employees will continue with Mimosa following the acquisition by Radisys. Jio Platforms buys US-based communications equipment maker Mimosa Networks for $60 million

According to an analyst, a large number of customers are likely to take the handsets, expected to be launched by the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mukesh+Ambani&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Mukesh </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mukesh+Ambani&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Ambani</a>-led telecom operator, at Rs 999 and Rs 1,500 during this quarter.  "If VoLTE feature phones come into the market, then there won't be a driving force pushing for the upgrade to smartphones; rather it will be an upgrade from feature phones to VoLTE feature phones. It will be a challenging time for the smartphone market, which could see flat growth in 2017,” Faizal Kawoosa, principal analyst at <keyword id="611566" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CyberMedia-Research">Cybermedia Research</keyword>, told ET. 
 Jio's VoLTE feature phones are likely to have front-facing and rear cameras, and may come bundled with apps such as Jio Chat, Live TV and video-on-demand. The company may also push its digital wallet service, <keyword id="4056483" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-money-wallet">Jio Money Wallet</keyword>, according to people in the know. 
 
Analysts said projections of growth in India's smartphone market this year may have to be revised downwards when Jio's VoLTE feature phones make their impact. 
 
Jio's VoLTE feature phones could increase the rate of migration within the feature phone category while lowering that of feature phones to smartphones, they said.

This time the company has accused <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> and <keyword id="6354924" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Idea-Cellular">Idea Cellular</keyword> and has also threatened them that Jio Inficomm will hold them "responsible for all consequences”. 
 
In a letter to the incumbents, Jio said that the average call failure rate on Vodafone is above 63% and on Idea is more than 44%. The company also claimed that it was due to the inadequate PoI availability. 
 A very similar letter was sent <keyword id="6354287" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharti-Airtel">Bharti Airtel</keyword> by Jio earlier, but now it has been confirmed by the Jio officials that call failure rates with India's top telco were just over 29%, far below that of the other two. 
 
Jio asked the incumbents to adhere to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's October 7 direction to comply with its quality of services rules, as the issue was impacting consumer interests. 
 
Maximum call failure rate allowed is 0.5%. Jio also threatened the telcos that they would be held responsible for all consequences due to continued violation of service quality norms on their part. 
 
"As you are aware, you never adhered to the schedule for providing E1s (PoIs) under one pretext or the other and this continues as at date,” the company wrote in its letters to the rivals. 
 
"None of the pretexts raised by you have any standing based on facts or on law in as much as your obligation to provide the requisite E1s to me QoS regulations are not contingent on any reasons or restrictions,” it further added.
