The Delhi University has initiated the process of declaring the first cut-off list for 2019 for admissions to undergraduate (UG) courses. Among the colleges that have released the first cut off 2019 are SRCC, Kirori Mal College, Satyawati College, Dyal Singh College and <keyword id="629093" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shaheed-Bhagat-Singh-College">Shaheed Bhagat Singh College</keyword>. Shri Ram College of Commerce first cut off for BA (Hons) is pegged at 98.5%, 0.75% up from last year. The cut off for BA Economics (Hons) is 98.75%. However, the cut-offs for Miranda House, Hindu College, Lady Shri Ram College for Women or LSR College, <keyword id="6454339" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gargi-college">Gargi College</keyword>, <keyword id="6479792" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="ramjas-college">Ramjas College</keyword>, <keyword id="124592" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sri-Venkateswara-College">Sri Venkateswara College</keyword> and Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College has not been released yet. The admissions under the first cut off will take place from 29 June to 1 July 2019. While the second and third cut-off list will be announced on 4 July and 9 July, respectively. Earlier, the varsity was expected to announce the cut-offs in 20 June. However, the schedule was revised on Wednesday. The number of students scoring 95% and above has increased by 38.4% this year, which is expected to impact the cut-off criteria of universities. This year, the National Testing Agency will conduct an entrance examination for the University of Delhi, for certain courses. The exams will be held between 30 June and 6 July 2019. While admissions to most of the undergraduate courses will take place according to their respective cut-offs. The admission for the 2019-2021 batch will enroll students for nearly 56,000 seats for the under-graduate courses. While, for the PG courses, the university has offered around 9,500 seats. Nearly 282 new seats have been added to the Delhi University courses. Stepping up the efforts, the University of Delhi is considering one percent relaxation for the students from government-run and rural schools. Delhi University counseling happens through offline mode. Students can seek admissions in Delhi University for UG, PG and doctoral courses across a range of disciplines. According to SRCC, there was a 32% increase in the average package and a 25% increase in its median package in the year 2019-20, in comparison to last year. Placements during a pandemic SRCC is one of the top commerce institutions in India. For students to get admission into the college, they have to score over 95% in 12th grade just to get in. And, the cut-offs are only increasing every year. The first phase of the placement drive at SRCC began in December with as many as 130 students receiving job offers. The highest package offered in the first phase was ₹31 lakh a year. The second drive was scheduled in January. However, once the coronavirus pandemic kicked in, it slowed down the process. Moreover, offers of 13 students who were placed in the first phase of the placement drive were either revoked or delayed. Despite the slowdown, it held the second phase of the placement drive and managed to get over 225 job offers from 120 recruiters for its undergraduate students. Around 554 students from the batch 2020, were registered with SRCC’s Placement Cell for jobs and internships. “It was quite challenging to be able to digitalise the entire process quickly and seamlessly, given that COVID had taken a drastic toll on the recruitment sector,” Vikram Nanda, Chief Secretary of the placement cell at SRCC, said in a statement. SRCC has further managed to get new offers for some of the students whose offers were revoked in the first drive. “As a team, we were happy with the fact that our statistics were still on a gradual rise and didn’t record any fall amidst the hiring freeze,” said Nanda. SRCC is now developing a virtual recruitment portal for the upcoming placement drive for the year 2020-21. They say they are very optimistic about the upcoming season and expect increased participation in online hiring as well. It is expecting McKinsey and Kearney, and FTI Consulting to make an offer to their undergraduate students in the upcoming season. Shri Ram College of Commerce sees a 32% increase in the average pay package as it ends its placement drive amid COVID-19

New Delhi, Apr 10 () Delhi University (DU) is considering making its entire admission process online to minimise the students' visits to the varsity in view of the situation arising out of the coronavirus pandemic, according to officials. Although the university has put the registration process on hold due COVID-19, its admission branch is working towards strengthening the process. According to the officials, the varsity has begun the process of collecting information from colleges amid a likelihood that there will be a little time left for preparations after the lockdown ends. In a letter to principals of all DU colleges on April 9, Professor Shobha Bagai, Dean (Admissions) said, "There has been a conscious effort to minimise visits of the students for physical verification of the mandatory documents during the admission process". "In the current scenario, it has been recommended that it becomes more imperative to have the complete admission process online, which also includes the online verification of the certificates," the letter said. Bagai also asked the colleges to upload necessary information on their websites and send the link to the admission branch. In the letter, she also directed the colleges to constitute a "strong" admission team for the process. "A team of reasonable number of student volunteers along with a Faculty Mentor be formed. The student volunteers must remain available during the time of admission to answer any related query pertaining to the admissions in the college," the letter said. DU had implemented the first phase of 10 per cent expansion in EWS (Economically Weaker Section) seats in 2019-20 and the remaining 15 per cent enhancement will be completed in 2020-21 academic session, according to the letter. The colleges have been requested to declare the seats in each course, category-wise on their websites. "With respect to certain course-wise combination of subjects, if there were any additional eligibility criteria, the same must be communicated to the admission branch by April 13," the letter said. But whether Du's ruling will have broader implications on the constitutionality of the criminal re-entry law is yet to be determined.The Justice Department is likely to appeal the judge's ruling to the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which issues binding decisions of federal law in western states. If the Ninth Circuit rules against the government, the DOJ may decide to petition the Supreme Court. <h2>In making their case, the defense turned to historical record </h2>The defense challenged section 1326's constitutionality by presenting a case based on historical record and showcasing how racism is intertwined with the law's origin story. Congress made re-entering the US post-deportation illegal in 1929 with the introduction of the Undesirable Aliens Act and reaffirmed the law in 1952 when it enacted section 1326. One of the lawmakers debating the Undesirable Aliens Act went so far as to argue for its necessity by arguing that Mexicans were "poisoning the American citizen" and were of an "undesirable class," per expert testimony cited in Carrillo-Lopez. The defense also pointed towards lawmakers' record of using racial slurs referring to Mexicans who enter the US illegally as evidence that racism factored into the creation of the laws. Violating the Undesirable Aliens Act and the re-entry statute can result in a fine, up to two years in federal prison, and added penalties for other drug and violence felonies and misdemeanors. "These laws were not just passed to provide a deterrent to undocumented entry," Gonzalez-O'Brien said. "The racial animus is on clear display."
