But those who expected to find a superb <keyword id="2437016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Thriller-erotica">thriller-erotica</keyword> in <keyword id="2296101" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Pandya">Vishal Pandya</keyword>’s <keyword id="753788" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hate-Story">Hate Story</keyword> 2 could be disappointed – neither the sizzle, nor the thrill matched the earlier Hate Story (a 2012 film directed by <keyword id="30014" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vivek-Agnihotri">Vivek Agnihotri</keyword> and starring <keyword id="455333" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Paoli-Dam">Paoli Dam</keyword>, Gulshan Devaiah and <keyword id="8255" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nikhil-Dwivedi">Nikhil Dwivedi</keyword>). In spite of some spirited acting by <keyword id="22533" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Surveen-Chawla">Surveen Chawla</keyword> and <keyword id="21678" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="sushant-singh">Sushant Singh</keyword>, the current movie turned out to be a mediocre <keyword id="1321184" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="revenge-drama">revenge drama</keyword> with lots of skin show, but still managed to do amazingly well at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword>. Produced by <keyword id="24468" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhushan-Kumar">Bhushan Kumar</keyword> and <keyword id="15260" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="vikram-bhatt">Vikram Bhatt</keyword>, Hate Story 2 netted Rs 5.46 crore on the opening Friday (trade figure stood at Rs 4.61 crore) and went on to collect Rs 15.85 crore nett in the first three days (trade figure was Rs 14.30 crore). But there was the usual Monday drop and the movie collected around Rs 2.68 crore on the fourth day (trade figure was Rs 2.11 crore), thus netting a total of Rs 18.53 crore after Day 4. 
 
Hate Story 2 hit 600 screens across the country but thanks to the fantastic business it is doing, the distributors now want it to be released in 1,200 screens pan-India, as per media reports. The opening weekend collections of Hate Story 2 were bigger than some A-list movies, including <keyword id="6377522" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="queen">Queen</keyword>, Highway and Dedh Ishqiya, and the 15th highest in 2014. It had a budget of Rs 14 crore (cost and P&amp;A), which means the flick is making profits. Interestingly, the official trailer of Hate Story 2 crossed over 4 million views on <keyword id="10879" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="YouTube">YouTube</keyword> within four days of its launch, but if you ask us, it’s a total put-off in many ways in spite of earning more than the other three releases. 
 
In stark contrast, Vir Das-Vega Tamotia-Anindita Nayar-starrer <keyword id="2336494" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amit-Sahni">Amit Sahni</keyword> Ki List turns out to be a refreshing <keyword id="1636016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="rom-com">rom-com</keyword> with loads of laughter and some pertinent points about relationships. But <keyword id="664154" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ajay-Bhuyan">Ajay Bhuyan</keyword>’s directorial endeavour failed to win hearts, netting a little over Rs 3.1 crore at home after the first Monday. Pizza 3D, a remake of the 2012 Tamil <keyword id="828468" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Supernatural">supernatural</keyword> thriller, came loaded with terror bytes but earned around Rs 2.87 crore nett in the first three days. Incidentally, the Tamil version of this movie was a sleeper hit.

However, the worst is Ashok Tyagi-directed Riyasat, yet another version of Mario Puzo’s Godfather and <keyword id="1076" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="superstar">superstar</keyword> Rajesh Khanna’s (<keyword id="4753" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Saheb">Saheb</keyword>) last outing. First day collections stood at a paltry Rs 36 lakh and the rest of the numbers are yet to come in. But industry insiders expect it to be a box office bomb and Khanna’s listless presence is not likely to help it. Although Aryan Vaid (Shakti), the elder son and heir, and <keyword id="15984" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aryeman-Ramsay">Aryeman Ramsay</keyword> (his younger son <keyword id="3037" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vijay">Vijay</keyword>) performed well, India’s first-ever superstar was completely off-colour and looked totally under the weather – hardly a fitting tribute to an <keyword id="271" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="actor">actor</keyword> of his stature. 
 
Critically speaking, Amit Sahni Ki List still tops the list in spite of the box office debacle and the shoddy treatment of an intriguing script. Here we meet Amit Sahni (<keyword id="671" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vir-das">Vir Das</keyword>), an <keyword id="140092" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="investment-banker">investment banker</keyword> trying to find the perfect relationship and not get hurt in the process. His serio-comic vulnerability reminds one of the young gang from Dil Chahta Hai and the carefully made check list of partner’s qualities once again makes us realise life does not follow a perfect script in spite of all our efforts. But the movie loses pace in-between, loses coherence and a drab ending ultimately mars the freshness. 
 Directed by debutant <keyword id="2174779" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshay-Akkineni">Akshay Akkineni</keyword>, Pizza 3D captures the paranormal experiences of Kunal (<keyword id="480238" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akshay-Oberoi">Akshay Oberoi</keyword>), a <keyword id="1079002" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="pizza-delivery-boy">pizza delivery boy</keyword> married to the <keyword id="2437008" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="horror-thriller-writer">horror thriller writer</keyword> <keyword id="741" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nikita">Nikita</keyword> (<keyword id="12341" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parvathy-Omanakuttan">Parvathy Omanakuttan</keyword>). What follows is a terror fest, with loads of twists and turns, leading to a climax that is spooky enough to please horror fans. However, the 3D effects did not add much to the terror elements. 
 
Overall, an average week for Bollywood, but you are bound to experience some dhamaka when Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer <keyword id="6362088" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="kick">Kick</keyword> is released on July 25.

Story 2 Steals The Show, But Don’t Miss Amit Sahni Ki List

Growing up as a star kid surrounded by parents who’re not only famous Bollywood actors, but are also worshipped by people nationwide can be as daunting a experience as it can be extraordinary. 
 
Even if one manages to exclude the hundreds cameras persistent to capture every moment of the living as a Bollywood actor’s kid, the unsaid added pressure from every side to take a liking to acting or grow up to belong in Bollywood certainly cannot be neglected. 
 
While there are so many actors who’ve followed the footsteps of their parents and entered the glitzy and glamorous world of Bollywood (think <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ranbir+kapoor">Ranbir Kapoor</a> and Abhishek Bachchan) and managed to successfully carve their own position, there exists a handful of star kids who’ve said no to the big bad world of Bollywood and made a name for themselves in other professions.

But, not Rhea. Always shying away from the spotlight, the elder Kapoor Girl is a stylist (best known for dolling up Sonam Kapoor in her fashion-forward best) and film-producer, having worked on Aisha and Khoobsurat and believes she’s made to be behind the camera.

It thus wouldn’t be wrong to expect her to be launched in a movie anytime soon, as well. Alas! Our expectations will remain just that, as Ahana has no plans of making it into the movies and is happy pursuing Odissi dance.

Ridhima Kapoor Sahni: Badtameez Dil actor Ranbir Kapoor’s elder sister Ridhima Kapoor hardly makes an appearance in front of the papparazis, and when she does, it’s mostly with parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, dressed to kill. Far from the maddening crowd of Mumbai, Riddhima resides in Delhi with her husband and is a successful interior and fashion designer.

Five star kids who've said no to acting in Bollywood movies

In fact, last week itself, we saw the release of a biopic staring <keyword id="1655" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Priyanka-Chopra">Priyanka Chopra</keyword>, which has been much appreciated. 
 This week it was the turn of Deepika Padukone starrer English language quirky drama to try its luck at Box Office. The movie has managed to create a place for itself amongst the niche audience but did not create a stir amongst the masses. As per Girish Johar, Film Business Expert “In the first opening weekend, <keyword id="1667771" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Finding-Fanny">Finding Fanny</keyword> has collected Rs 16.75 crore (both versions) approximately at the Indian box office”. 
 
Apart from Deepika Padukone, there were also other big names such as Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur and Dimple Kapadia. 
 This week, Vikram Bhatt’s movie <keyword id="1700318" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Creature-3D">Creature 3D</keyword>, too, was released. The movie stars Bipasha Basu along with Pakistani actor Imran Abbas Naqvi. This is Naqvi’s first movie in Bollywood. As per Johar, Creature 3D managed to rake in Rs 10.5 crores approximately in its first weekend at the BO. 
 On the other hand, <keyword id="47387" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mary-Kom">Mary Kom</keyword> continues to grow strong. The movie has so far managed to gather Rs 46 Crores at the box office. Considering that neither Finding Fanny nor Creature 3D managed to excite the Indian viewers, there is a good possibility that Mary Kom will continue to hold its ground in this week too. 
 While Bollywood movies did not manage to strike Gold at box office this week, Ravi Teja starrer latest Telugu film <keyword id="44011" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="power">Power</keyword> got to a good start. In the first weekend collection, the movie has managed to collect nearly Rs 16.04 crores. 
 
The next week is another big one for Bollywood as Daawet-e-Ishk and Khoobsurat clash at the box office. Let us see which amongst the two walks away with the cake.

Box Office: Finding Fanny And Creature 3D Manage A Modest Opening

Yet, year after year the printed book has continued to withstand the digital onslaught, and remains the most favoured format for readers. Last year print <keyword id="5050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="books">books</keyword> in India grew by 15% and the contribution of digital books to total sales amounted to a miniscule 5-10%. In spite of this, new entrants to publishing like Juggernaut and more recently the Pune-based, mobile-only publisher Readify are pushing boundaries and experimenting with content and format. In just 8 months since its launch, the Juggernaut mobile app has seen more than 560k+ users and 180,000 book downloads. Of all the digital books, 30 titles have been downloaded more than 1000 times. Most of these include classics like Charles Dickens, Agatha Christie, Rudyard Kipling, mass market romance, topical non-fiction such as Caste is Not a Rumour by Rohith Vemula, India Vs Pakistan by Hussain Haqqani, Operation Cactus by Sushant Singh, or books that benefited from certain events such as Vasanthi’s Amma and Mahashweta Devi’s short story Fishermen. 
 
It seems that debut literary fiction struggles as much on apps as in print. Juggernaut is actively commissioning content and stories to time them with current events. It has also tied up with top newspapers and magazines such as The Hindu, Mint, Caravan and Business Standard to curate digital books out of their existing archives. For instance, Juggernaut has recently published a digital book on Jayalalitha in collaboration with The Hindu. Titled Jayalalithaa: The Struggle for Power: 1982-1991.The book ‘presents startling interviews with the famously enigmatic politician. Interspersed with reportage, they provide a rich sense of the erstwhile CM's difficult early years along with her incredible will to succeed’. 
 
The consumption of books on the app shows interesting trends – for instance, short crime and horror sell more on digital than in print, especially if they are written by Indian authors. App based publishers are also discouraging lengthy tomes and a lot of the commissioning is done strictly keeping the word count in mind. “The format of the content being published will evolve to match the new delivery vehicles and the new target customers. The full-length novel is not suitable to be read on the relatively smaller screens of mobile phones. This won't adversely affect the prospects of full-length books, which already have a home in print publishing. It's going to be the time for flash fiction, short stories, and novellas’, says Readify’s Vivek Rao, who is also a fiction writer. Readify has signed the rights to filmmaker Vikram Bhatt’s flash fiction, which the author used to post regularly on his Facebook page. Rao feels that reading on mobile apps will break through unlike ebooks which couldn’t penetrate tier 2 and tier 3 towns where fewer people use laptops and tablets. Mobile phones, on the other hand, are everywhere. With the absence of printing and distribution costs (although these are offset to an extent by tech development costs), the pressure on pricing is much less. That said, it would take a few years to make these ventures profitable because initially a lot of books are offered at attractive discounts. 
 
Technology also addresses the rampant issue of piracy faced by print books. Both Readify and Juggernaut have built in several security features, including encryption of all content, so that piracy becomes extremely difficult. Business journalist and voracious book reader Chitra Narayanan gave me an interesting perspective on mobile apps: 
 
‘There are huge cost savings. These books are half the price of physical books. So the volume of the books one buys goes up. But it does not necessarily mean that you read more. It just means the volume of unread books piles up! Thanks to them I am diversifying my reading. Earlier there were select authors one would buy as one was generally hesitant to experiment. Now, because of sample chapter reads being free I read the free chapter and feel emboldened to buy the book.’ 
 
Almost everyone I spoke to agreed that print will remain untouched by these new digital platforms although the latter will be instrumental in drawing younger, traditionally book-averse people to reading. ‘Mobile publishing will not eat into the conventional market. There's a very limited overlap between the two markets. People who currently buy print books will continue to do so. Mobile publishing will bring in hordes of new readers - youngsters who are currently not reading at all.’, says Rao. Full Circle’s Priyanka Malhotra couldn’t be less bothered by such technologies and is only concerned by the threat posed to traditional bookstores by online selling platforms. Juggernaut’s Anish Chandy reports an excellent performance by the print division, with their first 21 books selling a combined 2.4 lakh copies.
