Vivo’s first S-series phone for India to launch today

The Vivo S1 is pegged to launch today and it’s first S-series phone that the $4 is going to launch in India.


The phone’s main feature is its 32-megapixel selfie camera and triple rear camera set up with a 16-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel wide angle lens and a 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The price of the phone hasn’t been unveiled for Indian users yet but its expected to be around ₹17,800 at par with the price of the in Indonesia where it was launched for IDR 3.599,000 for the most basic variant that has 4GB RAM coupled with 128GB storage.

In India, Vivo plans to launch three different variants of the device — 4G RAM with 128GB storage, 6GB RAM 64GB storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB storage.

The power behind the Vivo S1

The Vivo S1 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P65 octa-core processor that has the new Arm G52-class GPU. The company claims that the chipset’s gaming performance is 25% faster than older generation chipsets and delivers twice the performance.

The audio channels for voice commands and calls are separated making for creating a better gaming and media experience, according to MediaTek.

The Mediatek Helio P65 also have hardware accelerators like a depth engine to enable a more precise Bokeh — depth of field — effect in photos and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) to reduce blur.

Vivo S1 features

Aside from the phone’s camera and chipset, the Vivo S1 comes with a host of features that add to the phone’s value that will give users ‘big performance’, ‘big cameras’ and ‘great gaming’ all in one phone, according to the company.

Not only does it have a 4,500 mAh battery but it also comes with 18W fast charging support that will allow users to charge the relatively big battery, faster.

It’s not a small phone with 6.38-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED screen and a Halo FullView Display.

The teasers that Vivo has shared so far don’t sport a fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone. Instead, the phone has an in-display fingerprint reader and the option of using Face Unlock.

It will be available in two colors, Diamond Black and Skyline Blue when it goes on sale at 5pm today evening.
