 With this vision, two startup enthusiasts, <keyword id="265338" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anand-Lunia">Anand Lunia</keyword> and <keyword id="1506956" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madhukar-Sinha">Madhukar Sinha</keyword> started this firm to focus on businesses that they thought could really make a difference. 
 Speaking to <keyword id="824043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword>, Madhukar <keyword id="6358012" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sinha">Sinha</keyword>, ‘the other half’ of <keyword id="2457593" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-Quotient">India Quotient</keyword> said that they tend to favor businesses and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/cashless-Gujarat-village-Akodara-and-heres-my-takeaway-from-what-I-saw/articleshow/55668912.cms">ideas that deploy technology or mobile solutions with the purpose of serving the larger mass market </a>and solving everyday problems that this market segment faces, because that is where India’s growth story is going to come from. 
 
That being said, the venture capitalists believe in investing in the sectors they are passionate about, but not blindly. 
 
Their team has raised two funds so far with both funds performing well where they have Invested in 35 companies in all, out of which more than half have raised follow-up rounds. ‘Our tickets sizes are usually up to $0.5 million where we are leading the first round with 90-95% share’ Sinha shares. 
 
‘ We are rooting for mobile first tech-enabled consumer-focused businesses because India is at an inflection point of breeding a mobile-first generation. With over 220 million unique smart phone users – and fast growing Internet penetration, entrepreneurs today have the opportunity to capture a large market segment swiftly, as long as their business offers sufficient value for the end consumer’ Sinha comments. 
 
On upcoming sectors, Sinha talks about fin-tech, education, healthcare being the sectors to look out for and online first brands and marketplace models are where the buck stops. ‘We are also hoping to find an agricultural based startup which caters to the needs of most Indians.’

Say Hola to this Mumbai- based food startup that changes its menu daily

After speaking to half-a-dozen startups, The Economic Times found that the new entrants plan to channel efforts and marketing dollars entirely on their mobile applications. 
 Among the ones ET spoke to are local services startups Zopper, Doormint and LocalOye; online-first restaurants Holachef and Spoonjoy; online dating startup Truly-Madly; and on-demand grocery delivery firm <keyword id="2809732" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PepperTap">PepperTap</keyword>. 
 
Large eCommerce firms such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, Quikr, Ola and Myntra get 70-80% of their traffic from mobile devices, a key factor influencing Internet companies and startups to consider being app-only platforms, the ET news report confirms. Flipkart and its fashion affiliate Myntra began the trend by shutting their mobile websites and relying instead on their apps to encourage repeated use and to push targeted discounts and notifications. 
 Yet exception is there to prove the rule. Quikr is still not keen on shutting down web operation. "Mobile is clearly the most important channel for us, but for our business, which has a lot of customers in rural India, the browser is important as well," founder and CEO <keyword id="1063538" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pranay-Chulet">Pranay Chulet</keyword> told the financial daily. 
 
India's smartphone market grew 54% to 140 million devices last year, and is expected to reach 651 million in four years and be the largest mobile-first Internet market, according to Cisco. 
 
As a reflection of this market growth, Ola, India's largest taxi-hailing company, saw cab bookings through its mobile app double in the past 12 months. In contrast, its "website as a source of bookings has been negligible, as 80% of the bookings come through the app and around 20% through the call centre", Anand Subramanian, director of marketing communication at Ola, which registered more than 2 lakh rides a day in January told the ET.

India’s start up scene is gaining steam; all thanks to the some of the best think tanks of the country investing their money enthusiastically into start ups. Having funded a couple of start ups recently, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ratan+tata">Ratan Tata</a> is now investing in Holachef, a Mumbai-based food start up. 
 
Tata first invested in March 2014 in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Altaeros+Energies">Altaeros Energies</a>, a wind energy start-up founded by graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since then, he has funded quite a few start ups, including woman’s fashion portal, Kaaryah. 
 
Besides turning investor, Tata, is also an adviser to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kalaari+Capital+">Kalaari Capital</a> along with putting capital in some of its portfolio companies like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a>, Urban Ladder, and BlueStone earlier. He typically invests small amounts - less than $1 million - in early-to-late stage ventures. 
 
A brain child of Saurabh Saxena, Holachef provides home cooked at affordable prices, all across Mumbai and Pune. Holachef had raised Series A funding of Rs 20 crore in a round led by Kalaari Capital in June this year. Holachef had raised a seed fund of Rs 2 crore from India Quotient in February 2015. 
 
Saurabh Saxena, Co-founder and CEO, confirmed about the funding and told Business Insider India, “With his(Ratan Tata) guidance, Holachef is sure to become a leader in the food-tech space, with customer delight at its core. By winning his trust, we have raised the bar of quality and excellence for ourselves.” 
 
Holachef has a couple of competitors in the market, including BiteClub, Eatlo and TinyOwl Homemade. Founded by Saurabh Saxena, Gelra and Ritu, this start up have both professional and amateur chefs in its platform.

These Indian start-ups are revving up the Indian business scenario

After PayTm, Ola and a several others, everyone in the circuit were keen on knowing where <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ratan+tata">Ratan Tata</a> is further investing. Well, its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=lingerie">online lingerie retailer</a> Zivame now. While no information has been revealed about when and how much did the Tata Sons chairman emeritus invested in Zivame, people aware of the development confirmed about the development. 
 
However neither Tata nor Zivame have confirmed anything officially. 
 
Zivame recently closed a Series-C funding round of Rs 250 crore from Zodius Technology <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=funding">Fund</a> and Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the strategic investment fund of the government of Malaysia. Sources have informed that Tata has invested in the company much before the above findings. 
 
After stepping down an active role in the Tata Group, Ratan Tata has become a superstar investor for many start ups. He has invested in several internet companies and startups including Ola, Cardekho, Paytm, healthcare platform Lybrate and women's clothing brand Kaaryah. Tata also serves as an adviser with Kalaari Capital and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IDG+Ventures">IDG Ventures</a>, which have both invested in Zivame. 
 
He has invested in nearly a dozen of Kalaari's portfolio companies including Snapdeal, UrbanLadder, Holachef, YourStory and Bluestone. Zivame was expecting to close fiscal 2015 with Rs 50 crore in gross merchandise value, or the total retail price of the goods sold on its platform, on a loss of about Rs 35 crore.

Genuinely been helped by a lot of people, when Kola successfully sold her company, she didn’t want to stop working.  This personal investment from the chairman emeritus of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> comes just three months after he joined as a senior adviser to Jungle Ventures, the Singapore-based VC which has invested in Crayon. "We are excited and honored. To meet <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> and have our vision validated by him is an accolade in itself," said Srikant Sastri, co-founder of Crayon Data. 

	The company, co-founded in 2012 by IIM Calcutta graduates Sastri and Suresh Shankar, has raised $10 million in funding from Singapore-based Jungle Ventures and Spring Seeds so far. It employs 100 people within offices spread across New York, Dubai, Chennai, Singapore and London.
 

	Crayon has an engine that helps large enterprises deliver personalized choices to their consumers. It is developing what it calls a "consumer taste fabric", which maps choices across 15 categories, using machine-learning and complex algorithms. This taste fabric is then mapped to vast internal (enterprise) and external (online) data sets to provide a set of personalized choices to consumers.
 Tata, after stepping down from an active role in the <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>, has become an influential investor in startups. He has put his money into several internet companies and startups including Ola, Cardekho, Paytm, healthcare platform Lybrate, lingerie etailer Zivame and women's clothing brand Kaaryah. In addition to Jungle, Tata serves as an adviser with Kalaari Capital and IDG Ventures. He has invested in nearly a dozen of Kalaari's portfolio companies including <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, UrbanLadder, Holachef, YourStory and Bluestone.
