In what could be called a classic case of poaching, Tata Group’s auto wing, <keyword id="42747" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Motors">Tata Motors</keyword> has appointed <keyword id="6365618" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maruti-Suzuki-India">Maruti Suzuki India</keyword>’s former chief operating officer, Marketing and Sales, <keyword id="162478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mayank-Pareek">Mayank Pareek</keyword> as President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU). Pareek will take over from Ranjit Yadav, who will now be heading International Business for Passenger &amp; Commercial vehicles vertical of the company. Pareek will officially join from 1st October. 
	 
	Pareek will be responsible for reviving the dwindling sales of the passenger unit of the auto maker, which reported a decline reported in all the segments in August as against last year. “His extensive experience in the passenger car market will play a significant role in harnessing Tata Motors growth potential to help position the company as one of the leading passenger car manufacturers in India,” the company said in a statement. Pareek will also become a part of the Corporate Steering Committee, which was set up by Cyrus Mistry himself to oversee the operations of the company. 
	 
	Prior to joining Tata Motors, Pareek was with Maruti and had put in his papers on 15th September. 2014. His exit from the largest car maker was the second top-level exit from the company following the resignation of Sudam Maitra, COO of Supply Chain unit, who had resigned in May. Reports have suggested that Pareek was one of the senior-most Indian officials in the company. 
	 
	“He comes with over two decades of experience with (MSIL). His last role was as the Chief Operating Officer, wherein he was heading the Marketing &amp; Sales vertical that included Domestic Marketing and Sales, Dealer Development, Product Development, Used Car Business, Outbound Logistics, Spare Parts and Accessories, After Market Services and International Marketing &amp; Sales. He was also member of MSIL Management Committee, and a permanent invitee to the MSIL Board,” the company added in the statement. 
	 Pareek started his career in 1982 with state-run BHEL and worked in the manufacturing function and joined Maruti Udyog in 1991. He is credited for new strategic initiatives like leasing, financing and used car business during his stint in Maruti. His exit from the company came at a time when the auto maker was planning to launch <keyword id="2046037" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ciaz">Ciaz</keyword> Model, which will be positioned as a mid-size sedan, competing with Honda and Ford in that segment.

Motors Appoints Former Maruti COO Mayank Pareek

New Delhi, Dec 9 () Auto major Tata Motors plans to add 100 sales outlets for passenger vehicles by the end of the current fiscal as it aims to enhance its reach in the country, a senior company official said.
 The company, which has around 860 sales outlets spread across the country, has already added up around 100 outlets in the current financial year till now.
 "We are expanding sales network. Basically, we are getting into new locations. Idea is that per dealer sales should go up. Dealers are excited with our product range and they are willing to expand their territories by opening new outlets," Tata Motors President (Passenger Vehicles Business Unit) Mayank Pareek told .
 There was a plan to add 200 new sales outlets this fiscal, he added.
 "Of this 100 has already been added this fiscal, and in rest of the months we will add another 100 showrooms," Pareek said.
 The company used to add just 100 showrooms per financial year, and this year has been an exception, he noted.
 "With new outlets, the total count would go up to around 960 showrooms by the end of 2019-20," Pareek said.
 He, however, added that the company is also in the process of closing various dealerships which have been under performing.
 "These are people who are not interested in raising the bar and are unable to face the tough market situation situation right now," Pareek said.
 When asked about the number of such dealerships facing closure, he declined to share details, terming it as a "continuous process".
 Tata Motors is looking to increase its penetration in the domestic passenger vehicle segment with entry into the premium hatchback segment.
 With its new model Altroz, the company aims to enhance its presence to around 60 per cent of the total passenger vehicle market.
 "We now have two platforms -- Alfa and Omega. Our plan is that in each of these platforms we should have 6-7 top heads which could be small hatch, big hatch, mid hatch, mini van, MPV, small sedan, big sedan etc," Pareek said.
 The company has also developed a lot of concepts, the idea being that in the next 4-5 years, it should be able to cover 90 per cent of the market, he added.
 "Even with Altroz, the company would just be able to cover around 60 per cent of the market," Pareek said.
 Altroz, which comes with BS-VI compliant petrol and diesel powertrains, is set for launch next month. MSS

Tata Motors to add another 100 sales outlets for passenger vehicles this fiscal

In its bid to cut costs and improve efficiency, Tata Motors has initiated around 20 projects covering the entire gamut of the company's businesses, including factories and sales network, confirmed an agency report. 
 
The homegrown auto major is also planning to launch at least two new products, including a compact sedan and SUV, during the next fiscal as it aims to post sales better than the industry. 
 
"Product is a very obvious thing which everyone sees but it is just the tip of an iceberg. There is lot of activity happening below iceberg. We are completely refurbishing our network in terms of processes, people, training which have started giving results," Tata Motors President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Mayank Pareek told PTI in an interview. 
 
Besides new product development, the company has initiated various internal processes focussed on cost saving, improving efficiency and quality. 
 
"We have identified around 20 big projects in the company. These are called impact projects, which means improvement through action. We have actually pulled out senior people from various teams to work full time on these projects," Pareek said. 
 
Senior management is driving these projects which began in September 2016, covering the whole gamut of Tata Motor's business. 
 
"Senior people like me are owners of these projects... these are literally transformational projects...these 20 projects are on cost and efficiency -- which is globally competitive," Pareek said. 
 
When asked if the company has sany target in terms of cost saving through these projects, Pareek said "it will be very significant not one per cent kind of stuff" without sharing exact figures. 
 
Commenting on sales outlook for the next fiscal, Pareek said the company aims to grow better than the industry which is expected to grow in double digits. 
 
"In this fiscal the industry will grow around 8-9 per cent...if we take calender year then it grew by 8 per cent last year...I expect the industry to grow in double digits next fiscal and coming to Tata Motors we will do better than that (industry)," Pareek said. 
 
The Mumbai-based company is present in only 59 per cent of the passenger vehicle market in the country and there is immense scope for growth, he added. 
 
"We are not there for example in many segments. We are not there in compact SUV, we are not there in hot hatches...going forward we will be launching new products. We will launch a compact sedan, a compact SUV and all these will add up to our volumes," Pareek said. 
 
Also the company has refurbished its sales network and recharged its service potential, he added. 
 
"With all these initiatives, we will outperform the market for sure," he said. 
 
When asked about new product launches, he added: "Two products at least during the fiscal."

Tata Motors passes on GST benefits to customers; slashes prices by 12 %

Indore, Jan 27 () The country's automobile industry will gather pace by July-August this year, a top official at Tata Motors said, attributing the current temporary slowdown to issues like consumers facing problems in securing vehicle loan and the companies shifting to BS-VI emission norms as mandated by the government. 
"The sluggishness of the vehicle market in the country is going to be short-lived.
We hope that sales of passenger vehicles will record pace by July-August before the festive season," Tata Motors president (passenger vehicles business unit), Mayank Pareek, told reporters after launching the company's new car Altroz in Madhya Pradesh.
He hoped that the vehicle market would grow due to the continuous expansion of infrastructure in the country and the increasing population of young professionals.
Pareek said that about 74 per cent of customers in the country buy cars by taking loans from banks.
But for the last 12 to 18 months, customers are facing difficulties in getting vehicle loans from banks.
Besides, he said that due to the emission standard change from BS-IV to BS-VI, there has been a slight slowdown in the entire motor vehicle industry as all the vehicle manufacturers are currently finishing their old stock of BS-IV class vehicles.
Sharing details of Tata Motors' position in this regard, Pareek said, "We have exhausted stock of BS-IV class vehicles in our factories in the first nine months (April-December) of the ongoing financial year.
The company hopes that by February 1, the stock of vehicles in this category will be reduced to less than 5,000 units with Tata's dealers.
"It is to be noted that as per the Supreme Court's decision to reduce environmental pollution, Bharat Stage (BS)-VI emission standards are going to be implemented from April 1 and new vehicles will be sold in the country as per this standard only.

Jaisalmer, Dec 4 () Tata Motors on Wednesday said it will increase prices of its passenger vehicles from January, primarily in order to offset impact of upgrading its portfolio to conform to BSVI emission norms.
 The company currently sells products ranging from hatchback Tiago to SUV Harrier, priced between Rs 4.39 lakh and Rs 16.85 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
 "With BSVI products coming in, prices will increase from January," Tata Motors President (Passenger Vehicles Business Unit) Mayank Pareek told in an interview here.
 He declined to quantify the increase in prices but said the hike next month would be on a higher side as compared to earlier price revisions taken by the company.
 "We are working on the calculations...normally if any change happens the prices go up by Rs 10,000-15,000. Now there are two things happening, one is BSVI and there is also pressure from rise in commodity prices," Pareek said.
 BSVI emission norms in India are slated to kick in from April 1, 2020.
 On Tuesday, Maruti Suzuki India announced to increase prices of its models from January to offset rising input costs.
 Other automakers like Toyota, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and Mercedes-Benz are also contemplating a similar move.
 Hyundai Motor India and Honda Cars India, however, said they will not increase vehicle prices in January, but their products will see price hike when BSVI compliant models are introduced in the market. MSS DRR

New Delhi, Apr 1 () Tata Motors on Wednesday reported a 82.69 per cent decline in total sales to 12,924 units in March.The company had sold a total of 74,679 units in same period last year, Tata Motors said in a statement.Total domestic sales were down 84 per cent to 11,012 units from 68,727 units in March last year, it added.Passenger vehicle sales in the domestic market during the last month stood at 5,676 units as against 17,810 units in the same month previous year, down 68 per cent.Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Business Unit President Mayank Pareek said vehicle sales were affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent nationwide lockdown.Similarly, the company reported 87 per cent decline in total commercial vehicle sales at 7,123 units as against 56,536 units in the year-ago period. Tata Motors total sales down nearly 83 pc in March

New Delhi, Jan 1 () Tata Motors on Wednesday reported a 12 per cent decline in total vehicle sales in domestic market to 44,254 units in December.
 The company had sold 50,440 units in the same month in 2018, Tata Motors said in a statement.
 Total passenger vehicle sales last month stood at 12,785 units as against 14,260 units in the same month previous year, down 10 per cent, it added.
 Tata Motors President (Passenger Vehicles Business Unit) Mayank Pareek said, "Our focus in December has been to drive retail and minimise the network stock in order to facilitate a smooth transition to BS-VI."
 He further said, "Having almost completed our planned production and despatches of BS-IV, we will start moving to BS-VI production and despatches from January and step up our volumes in the coming months."
 Tata Motors said its commercial vehicle sales in December 2019 stood at 34,082 units as against 40,015 units in the year-ago month, down 15 per cent.
 Tata Motors President (Commercial Vehicles Business Unit) Girish Wagh said retail was higher than wholesales at 13 per cent in December with further stock reduction, as the company moves closer to BS-VI transition.
 "Enquiries continued to increase gradually, with fleet owners realising the economic benefits of replacement of their older vehicles now. Increasing enquiries and lower stocks augur well for future volumes and realisation, early indication of which can be seen in December," he added. RKL HRS

Tata Motors domestic sales fall 12 pc to 44,254 units in December

New Delhi, Jan 15 () Tata Motors on Wednesday said its upcoming premium hatchback Altroz has received the highest 5-star adult safety rating by Global NCAP, an internationally renowned safety accreditation body.
 Altroz has become the second passenger vehicle brand after Nexon to get the 5-star adult safety rating from the Global NCAP.
 Nexon had received the distinction in December 2018.
 The company said the Altroz has also achieved a 3-star rating for child occupant safety.
 "The Nexon was the proverbial guiding light for us in this aspect, and the Altroz has followed its footsteps, setting a new benchmark across the industry safety standards," Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Business Unit (PVBU) President Mayank Pareek said in a statement.
 This latest Global NCAP score reaffirms that the company stands by its commitment to make the best in global car safety, accessible to Indian customers, he added.
 "Being an industry first in the hatchback segment in the country, this is in lockstep with our objective to deliver mobility solutions that possess advanced technological features alongside providing robust protection for the occupants," Tata Motors President and Chief Technology Officer Rajendra Petkar said.
 Tata Motors said the Global NCAP evaluated the car for both front and side impacts. The combined evaluation of both the tests have resulted in a full 5-star rating, it added.
 The auto major is looking to increase its penetration in the domestic passenger vehicle segment with entry into the premium hatchback segment with Altroz later this month.
 With Altroz joining in its passenger vehicle portfolio, the company aims to enhance its presence to around 60 per cent of the total passenger vehicle market.
