Jio laptop inches closer to launch, could be powered by Windows 10 and an ARM processor

growth. “As newer Chinese vendors such as realme and Xiaomi became aggressive, consumers had more to choose from,” Shenoy added. While Samsung’s share declined from 45.5% in 2022 to 39.5% in 2023, Lenovo’s share declined from 17.5% in 2022 to 14.3% in 2023. As per the report, increased competition from newer players has impacted the performance of these companies. “Tablets will be challenged in 2024 due to reduced demand in the commercial segment. Government-driven projects will be limited in the first half of 2024 due to the election code of conduct. Also, the tablet market will witness stiff competition from Chromebooks and entry level Android notebooks such as the JioBook in the manifesto deals. With aggressive pricing, wider screens, keyboards, and 4G connectivity, the prospect of these entry-level notebooks in education deals looks positive,” said Navkendar Singh, associate vice president, Devices Research, IDC India. Indian tablet market down by 24.9% in 2023, Samsung leads the market

<ul><li>Imports of laptops, computers and more would now require a licence.</li><li>There is an exception to only one such item as a part of baggage rules.</li><li>Reliance Retail recently launched its budget laptop named JioBook. </li></ul>The Indian government imposed restrictions on the import of laptops, tablets, personal computers and servers, says a government notification released on Thursday. All these imports will be restricted with immediate effect, the notification by the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) says. Any imports hereon will require a licence, and an exemption will be provided to only one such item per consignment, with the exception of servers. People who travel can bring in one such item with them in their baggage. The said restriction shall not be applicable to Imports under baggage rules, as amended from time-to-time exemption from import licencing requirements is provided for Import of one laptop, tablet, all-in-one personal computer, or ultra small form factor computer, including those purchased from e-commerce portals, through post or courier, the notification said. The <keyword id="1289564" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="import-licence" source="Orion">import licence</keyword> also has an exemption for up to 20 items per consignment — when used for R&amp;D, testing, benchmarking and evaluation, repair and re-export, product development purposes. “Given imports shall be allowed subject to condition that the imported goods shall be used for the stated purposes only and will not be sold. Further, after the intended purpose, the products would either be destroyed beyond use or re-exported,” the notification said. “Restricted imports shall not be required for repair and return of said items. Laptops, tablets, all-in-one personal computers, and ultra-small form factor computers and servers which are an essential part of a capital good shall be exempted from the import licencing requirements,” government said. One of India’s largest retailers, Reliance Retail, has recently launched its home-grown laptop, named JioBook. The budget laptop is priced at ₹16,499 apiece. All the computing and storage will occur on the JioCloud and you will need an active internet connection to access this data, unlike traditional laptops where you can access files on your device without the need of an internet connection. “The cost of a laptop depends on its hardware like memory, processing power, chipset etc. The greater capacity of these hardware increases costs as well as battery power. India’s smartphone shipments continue to slip but premium segment going strong with Samsung in the lead

The study conducted on a small group of people found that COVID-19 damaged the DNA in heart tissue, which was not detected in influenza samples. The researchers noted that while COVID-19 and influenza are both severe respiratory viruses, they appeared to affect cardiac tissue very differently. "In comparison to the 2009 flu pandemic, <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">COVID</keyword> has led to more severe and long-term cardiovascular disease but what was causing that at a molecular level was not known," said Arutha Kulasinghe from the <keyword id="80595" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="university-of-queensland" source="Orion">University of Queensland</keyword>, Australia. "During our study, we couldn't detect viral particles in the cardiac tissues of COVID-19 patients, but what we found was tissue changes associated with DNA damage and repair," Kulasinghe said. DNA damage and repair mechanisms are related to chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, atherosclerosis and neurodegenerative disorders, so understanding why this is happening in COVID-19 patients is important, the researchers said. Data associated with the impact of COVID-19 on the heart has previously been limited to blood biomarkers and physiological measurement, as obtaining heart biopsy samples is invasive. The study, recently published in the journal <keyword id="105674" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="immunology" source="Orion">Immunology</keyword>, used actual cardiac tissues collected during autopsies from seven COVID-19 patients from Brazil, two people who died from influenza and six control patients. The findings provided insights into how COVID-19 impacted the body compared to other respiratory viruses. "When we looked at the influenza cardiac tissue samples, we identified that it caused excess inflammation," said Professor John Fraser, who established the international COVID-19 Critical Care Consortium. "Whereas we found COVID-19 attacked the heart's DNA -- probably directly and not just as a knock-on from inflammation," Fraser said. The study highlights that the two viruses appear to affect cardiac tissue very differently, which the resaerchers want to get a better understanding of in larger cohort studies. "What we have categorically shown is that COVID is not 'just like the flu'," said Fraser. "This study helps us understand how COVID-19 affects that heart, and that is the first step in working out what treatments might be best to repair that heart," he added. There has been increased new supply by the leading and listed developers, who also reported robust housing sales. While Delhi sold fewer units at 14,970 as compared to MMR, in percentage terms its sales went up 46% annually. Pune registered a quarterly sales growth at 3% and annually, its growth stood at 45%. NCR, MMR, Bengaluru, Pune, and Hyderabad together accounted for 90% of the sales for the quarter. The sales in Chennai and Kolkata made up 10% of the total sales. Residential property prices across these top seven cities registered a quarterly increase in the range of 1-2% in Q3 2022. On an annual basis, prices have risen in the range of 4-7% primarily due to an increase in input costs and demand comeback post Covid, Anarock said. Mumbai, Hyderabad top new unit additions MMR is also on the top when it comes to new properties. The region added 36,000 new units in the quarter and overtook Hyderabad – the city which ranks second in terms of new additions – by a large margin. Hyderabad added 15,530 units during the quarter, while in NCR, it was much lower at 6,400 units. MMR, Hyderabad, Pune and Bengaluru together accounted for 86% of the total new property additions, says Anarock. As many as 93,500 new units were launched across the top seven cities, against 82,100 units in the preceding quarter — registering a 14% growth. On a yearly basis, there was a 45% jump of new real estate property launched. In Q3 2021, 64,560 units were launched in the top seven cities across the country. Analysing based on price segments, the survey estimated that 36% of total new supply was in the mid-segment (₹40-80 lakh), 28% in the premium segment (₹80 lakh-₹1.5 cr); 18% each in the luxury and affordable segments.
