<keyword id="790242" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WhatsApp">WhatsApp</keyword> on Thursday launched the much-awaited 'Disappearing Messages on its platform for both Android and iOS users that will automatically delete new messages sent to a chat after seven days when turned on. In a one-to-one chat, either person can turn disappearing messages on or off. In groups, admins will have the control on the new feature. "Our goal is to make conversations on WhatsApp feel as close to in-person as possible, which means they shouldn't have to stick around forever. That's why we're excited to introduce the option to use disappearing messages on WhatsApp," the company said in a statement. The Facebook-owned platform is starting with the seven-day limit "because we think it offers peace of mind that conversations aren't permanent, while remaining practical so you don't forget what you were chatting about". The feature will be rolling out to over two billion active users globally this month. The platform has over 400 million users in India. Once enabled, new messages sent in the individual or group chat will disappear after seven days. The most recent selection controls all messages in the chat. "This setting won't affect messages you previously sent or received in the chat. In an individual chat, either user can turn disappearing messages on or off. In a group chat, only group admins can turn disappearing messages on or off," WhatsApp informed. If a user doesn't open WhatsApp in the seven-day period, the message will disappear. However, the preview of the message might still be displayed in notifications until WhatsApp is opened. "When you reply to a message, the initial message is quoted. If you reply to a disappearing message, the quoted text might remain in the chat after seven days". If a disappearing message is forwarded to a chat with disappearing messages off, the message won't disappear in the forwarded chat. "If a user creates a backup before a message disappears, the disappearing message will be included in the backup. Disappearing messages will be deleted when a user restores from a backup," WhatsApp explained. WhatsApp said that people should only use disappearing messages with trusted individuals. For example, it's possible for someone to forward or take a screenshot of a disappearing message and save it before it disappears. "Copy and save content from the disappearing message before it disappears. Take a photo of a disappearing message with a camera or other device before it disappears," the company advised. By default, media you receive in WhatsApp will be automatically downloaded to your photos. If disappearing messages are turned on, media sent in the chat will disappear, but will be saved on the phone if auto-download is on. WhatsApp is testing voice and video calls on desktop, gearing up to take on Zoom and Google Meet

New Delhi, India's <keyword id="6365485" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fiscal-Deficit">fiscal deficit</keyword> in the current financial year is likely to reach 7.4% of the <keyword id="35050" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gdp">GDP</keyword> on the back of enhanced government <keyword id="53105" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Expenditure">expenditure</keyword> amid the pandemic, said the <keyword id="13222" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword> Ecowrap report. The report noted that as per the first advanced estimate of the GDP, real GDP will contract by 7.7% in <keyword id="7822862" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="FY21">FY21</keyword>, and nominal GDP growth is expected at (-) 4.2%. Accordingly, the nominal GDP for <keyword id="5027223" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FY22">FY22</keyword> would grow by 15% to ₹224.04 lakh crore. "Current trends in the GDP for FY21 will translate into ₹3.2 lakh crore net revenue shortfall for the <keyword id="6356303" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Centre">Centre</keyword> this fiscal and at the same time, expenditure is higher by around ₹3.3 lakh crore, thus taking the fiscal deficit to ₹14.46 lakh crore and with new revised nominal GDP estimate for FY21, it will be around 7.4% of GDP," it said. For FY22, assuming the government keeps the expenditure growth at 6% over FY21 estimates and overall receipts, excluding borrowing and other liabilities, expected at 25%, it would result in fiscal deficit of around ₹11.67 lakh crore or 5.2% of GDP. The net market borrowing of the Centre will be around ₹8.8 lakh crore and with repayments of ₹2.7 lakh crore, gross borrowings are expected at ₹11.5 lakh crore, according to the report. "With states' gross borrowing around ₹9.4 lakh crore, total gross market borrowing would be around ₹20.9 lakh crore, but could have a clear downward bias," it said. SBI pegs India's fiscal deficit at 7.4% of GDP

The new home loan interest rates are linked to CIBIL score and start from 6.80 per cent for loans up to Rs 30 lakh and 6.95 per cent for loans above Rs 30 lakh, a bank release said. Women borrowers will get a <keyword id="44979" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="concession">concession</keyword> of 5 bps, it said. "With an aim to offer attractive concessions to the home buyers, country's largest lender SBI announces further interest concession of up to 30 bps on home loans and 100 per cent waiver on processing fees," the release said. The bank said interest concession of up to 30 bps is also available in eight metro cities for loans up to Rs 5 crore. Customers can also apply from the ease of their home via <keyword id="6961637" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="yono-app">YONO App</keyword> and get additional interest concession of 5 bps, the release said. "We are pleased to improve our concessions to prospective home loan customers up to March 2021," the bank's managing director (retail and digital banking), C S Setty, said. Whatsapp to stop working on iPhone 6S, iPhone 6 and these Android phones from January 1

Cyber security researchers have found a <keyword id="9994130" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-trojan-malware">new Trojan malware</keyword> named Alien that can steal credentials from 226 Android apps in several countries including in India. Alien targeted other apps as well like Gmail, Facebook, Telegram, Twitter, Snapchat and WhatsApp. Most targets are banking apps, but Alien can also show phishing pages for social, instant messaging, and cryptocurrency apps, reports ZDNet. The <keyword id="9994132" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="alien-malware">Alien malware</keyword> is a rented banking Trojan which offers more than the average capabilities of Android banking Trojans. According to security researchers from ThreatFabric, it has common capabilities such as overlay attacks, control and steal SMS messages and harvest the contact list. The malware can leverage its keylogger for any use and, therefore, broaden the attack scope further than its target list. "It also offers the possibility to install, start and remove applications from the infected device". Most importantly, it offers a notifications sniffer, allowing it to get the content of all notifications on the infected device, and a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) feature (by abusing the TeamViewer application), meaning that the threat actors can perform the fraud from the victim's device. According to cyber security researchers, Alien is not a new piece of code but based on the source code of a rival malware named Cerberus which was an active malware-as-a-service (MaaS) last year. "We also notice an interest from actors in recording and stealing more information surrounding the victim. How that information will be used or monetized can vary, it is just a matter of time before actors find out about the value of such information," the researchers noted in a blog post. The last quarter of 2020 will probably come with some additional changes to the threat landscape, especially since the source code of the Cerberus Trojan has been made publicly available. In the coming months, we can definitively expect some new malware families, based on Cerberus, to emerge, the researchers added. "We strongly recommend all financial institutions to understand their current and future threat exposure and consequently implement the relevant detection and control mechanisms". Thus, with the Cashless India campaign pulling in new users with its own <a href="https://swarajyamag.com/economy/forget-cash-cheques-and-atms-with-upi-your-mobile-will-be-as-good-as-a-bank">unified payment interface</a> (<keyword id="6358921" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="upi">UPI</keyword>), apps like <keyword id="704860" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tez">Tez</keyword> and <keyword id="6357120" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm">PayTm</keyword> have experienced a significant <a href="https://swarajyamag.com/insta/upi-wars-paytm-beats-google-tez-claims-nearly-40-per-cent-market-share-in-february-2018-upi-transactions">boom</a>. And thus, it’s not surprising that WhatsApp wants to capitalise on that opportunity with its huge user base in India. The pilot version of WhatsApp Pay was <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2018/02/08/whatsapp-has-launched-person-to-person-payments-into-beta-in-india/">launched</a> on Android under the app's beta version earlier in February this year with a base of 1 million users. Thus far, it has received <a href="https://www.zdnet.com/article/why-whatsapps-entrance-into-indias-payments-space-has-terrified-paytm/">positive</a> reviews. Google’s Tez and Alibaba-backed PayTm have both expressed their <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/technology/2018/02/15/paytm-calls-whatsapps-closed-payments-service-unfair-as-cashless-war-intensifies">displeasure</a> at this development. Tez even <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/technology/social/google-tez-app-now-supports-chat-feature-heres-how-to-use/">launched</a> its own chat feature to make its own platform more appealing to users. Their ‘displeasure’ isn’t surprising in the least since WhatsApp already has 200 million users, which is essentially, 20 times that of PayTm. If all WhatsApp users potentially move to using it as a payment platform, the competition it would bring to the cashless sector is massive. That being said, users should be aware that WhatsApp in itself isn’t a licensed financial institution. Their terms and conditions explicitly <a href="https://www.thequint.com/tech-and-auto/tech-news/whatsapp-upi-payment-feature-india-how-it-works">state</a> that - “(WhatsApp is) not responsible for UPI service interruptions or acts or omissions of PSPs or your bank including the payments, settlement and clearance of funds.” Some features don’t get introduced because they’re necessary but because they’re convenient, or add to the already existing convenience of an app. Such seems to be the case for WhatsApp and the integration of its payment feature.

WhatsApp rushing to launch its payments feature in India next week

<keyword id="12760343" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Highways-Infra-Trust" source="Orion">National Highways Infra Trust</keyword> (<keyword id="49448" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NHAI" source="Orion">NHAI</keyword> InvIT), the infrastructure investment trust sponsored by <keyword id="83263" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Highway-Authority-of-India" source="Orion">National Highway Authority of India</keyword> (NHAI) to support the Central government's <keyword id="11929270" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Monetization-Pipeline" source="Orion">National Monetization Pipeline</keyword>, has raised a sum of ₹1,430 crore from domestic and international investors through placement of its units, for part funding its acquisition of three additional road projects from NHAI. The placement of units with institutional investors, witnessed strong demand from both existing investors, who reposed their commitment by participating in the process, as well as new investors. The units have been subscribed by a gamut of institutional investors including Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan Board, State Bank of India, SBI Pension Fund, SBI Mutual Fund, IOCL Employee Provident Fund, L&amp;T Staff Provident Fund, Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Karamchari Pension Fund, TATA AIG and <keyword id="5050251" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="star-union-daiichi-life-insurance" source="Orion">Star Union Daiichi Life Insurance</keyword>. NHAI subscribed to the units through preferential allotment to maintain its unitholding of at least 15 per cent. The units were subscribed through a book build process at Rs 109 per unit, at a premium over floor price of Rs 107.12 per unit. In addition to the above, NHAI InvIT has also filed a prospectus with SEBI for issuance of Non-Convertible Debentures (NCDs) to raise Rs 1,500 crore. The NCDs would carry a coupon of 7.90 per cent payable semi-annually and would be available for subscription by both retail and institutional investors. Equity benchmark Sensex rallied 487 points on Monday to close at a fresh lifetime peak, tracking gains in Infosys, HDFC twins and HCL Tech amid massive foreign fund inflows. After touching a record intra-day high of 49,303.79, the 30-share BSE index ended 486.81 points or 1 per cent higher at 49,269.32. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty surged 137.50 points or 0.96 per cent to finish at 14,484.75. It hit a fresh intra-day high of 14,498.20. On the Sensex chart, HCL Tech was the top gainer, soaring around 6 per cent, followed by Infosys, HDFC, Bajaj Auto, Maruti, <keyword id="43217" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tech-Mahindra">Tech Mahindra</keyword> and M&amp;M. "Continued improvement in COVID-19 recovery rates and announcement of vaccination process from January 16 offered comfort to markets. Further, expectations of sharp recovery in corporate earnings led by sustained rebound in key economic data may propel market to witness fresh highs in the near term," he stated. FPI flow may continue to remain favourable given status of global economy, stance of global central bankers and weak dollar, he said, adding that domestic equities can also witness pre-Budget rally in the coming weeks considering broad expectations of pro-growth measures. Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 6,029.83 crore on Friday, according to exchange data. Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Hong Kong and Seoul ended with gains, while Shanghai was in the red. Stock exchanges in Europe were trading on a negative note in early deals. Meanwhile, the global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading 1.52 per cent lower at USD 55.14 per barrel. <ul><li>The <keyword id="6354335" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="30067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI">RBI</keyword>) has postponed the upcoming meeting of <keyword id="6375120" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="monetary-policy-committee">Monetary Policy Committee</keyword> (MPC).</li><li>The new dates will be announced ‘shortly’, according to the notice issued by India’s apex bank. </li><li>The government is yet to announce its new nominations for the committee with the tenure of the current external members — Ravindra Dholakia, Pami Dua and Chetan Gate — set to expire on September 30. </li></ul>The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has postponed the meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) that was scheduled to take place starting September 29 through to October 1. The new dates will be announced ‘shortly’, according to the <a href="https://rbidocs.rbi.org.in/rdocs/PressRelease/PDFs/PR40014EDCE17EA504028927F4652FE40441B.PDF">RBI’s notice.</a> Even though the central bank did not specify why it had to push the meeting forward, it’s likely because the new members of the MPC haven’t been announced yet. The tenure for three of the external members — Ravindra Dholakia, Pami Dua and Chetan Gate — is set to expire on September 30. Government yet to announce MPC’s new faces The MPC consists of 6 members. Three members are from the central bank and the other three are external — nominated by the government. The central government members each hold a term of four years from the date of appointment and are not eligible for re-appointment. The MPC recently replaced Janak Raj, an executive director at the RBI and MPC member who retired in June, with Mridul Saggar. The RBI had earlier approached the government to extend the tenure for these three till 31 March 2021 in view of the coronavirus pandemic. But, the government turned the request down. A panel headed by the Department of Economic Affairs secretary Tarun Bajaj is currently on the lookout for new eligible candidates. The search committee also includes RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. However, the government is yet to announce the new names for external MPC members.
