How to enable two-step verification on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps available and is packed with features. The app has been working on improving security and privacy of its users. Messages on the app are end-to-end encrypted by default and cannot be accessed by anyone.

Another important feature that ensures your account’s security is two-step verification. This feature prevents your account from falling into the wrong hands. Once you enable this feature, a six-digit PIN is required when you try to verify your phone number on WhatsApp.

What is two-step verification

Two-step verification has been designed to prevent others from using your WhatsApp account. When this feature is enabled, your account cannot be reverified without entering the 6-digit PIN.

Once you use the PIN on your account, you cannot reverify this account in the next seven days without a PIN. After seven days of using the PIN, you can reverify your account without a PIN but all your pending messages will be deleted.

How to enable two-step verification on WhatsApp

• Open WhatsApp on your phone.
• Tap on the overflow button (three dots) at the top right corner.
• Click on ‘Settings’ and then go to ‘Account’.
• Now, click on ‘two-step verification’.
• Now, click on ‘Enable’.
• Enter a 6-digit PIN and then re-enter it.
• Now, you will be asked to enter an email address and then re-enter it for verification.
• You also have the option of skipping this step.
• Click on ‘Done’.

It must be noted that WhatsApp does not verify your email address so make sure that you are entering the correct email. WhatsApp will periodically ask you to enter the 6-digit PIN so that you don’t forget it.

How to disable two-step verification

• Open WhatsApp on your Phone.
• Tap on the overflow button (three dots) at the top right corner.
• Click on ‘Settings’ and then go to ‘Account’.
• Now, click on ‘two-step verification’.
• Then, click on ‘Disable’.
