And the top-most core subjects — bagging over 32% of offers — included electrical, chemical, civil and mechanical engineering followed by information technology. IT graduates secured 20% of the total offers rolled out by the employers. While analytics, management, finance, consulting and research fields secure the highest and most placements from India’s B-schools, the category bagged rest of the offers during the current placement season at IIT. However, the IIT did not disclose the salary packages offered by employers, saying that may be "devaluing national placements over international placements as well as core jobs over finance and consulting jobs." Eyeing the global demand for skills in technology sectors and analytics, IT majors including Capgemini and Wipro have been stepping up hiring a large chunk of talent from Indian engineering campuses. The rise in automation and related skills has led to increased demand in the Artificial Intelligence. On a larger scale, it also aims to get nearly 25,000 employees onboard in India — including the senior positions. In fact, last year, to boost the senior level players, the IT major also initiated quarterly appraisals for its employees in India. Consulting &amp; Strategy accounts for almost a third of the total job offers As expected, consulting and strategy was the most sought after domain this year, accounting for 29% of the total offers. The sector offered the highest salary packages at an average remuneration of ₹24 lakh per annum. This includes roles like investment banking, supply chain management, advisory, analytics and corporate strategy. Other job offers came from sectors such as finance, analytics, general management, Human Resources, IT, operations, sales and marketing. The maximum number of job offers came from top multinationals like — ByteDance, Cognizant, Deloitte, JP Morgan and TATA Steel. Highest stipend at ₹3 lakh during summer placements The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. The graduates also secured pre-placement offers from Goldman Sachs, DE Shaw, Emami Group, Titan and more. IIM Shillong witnesses a whopping 73% increase in highest package at ₹48.5 lakh

<ul><li><keyword id="6354512" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> temporarily froze hiring, promotions and appraisals in view of the <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">Coronavirus</keyword> pandemic. </li><li>It will onboard all the campus and lateral hires to whom they made job offers. </li><li>However, Pravin Rao, COO at Infosys, did not hint of any furloughs or layoffs. </li><li>The company said that all the 6,000 trainees will now continue their training remotely. “There are assessments, certifications and other online training to facilitate remote programmes,” Rao added. </li><li>Rao said that the company is planning to make more than 35,000 offers in FY21.</li></ul>Infosys, in its latest earnings call, said that it has temporarily froze hiring, promotions and appraisals in view of the Coronavirus pandemic, calling it a ‘no regret’ move. For IT giants wages, employee costs and campus placement drives make up for over half of its operational costs. ‘We will honour all offers made — freshers and lateral hires’ Infosys however said that it will onboard all the campus hires. With this, it joins the likes of Accenture, Tata Consultancy Sevices (TCS) and other tech giants who will honour all the job offers made in the last financial year. A large number of companies have rescinded campus job offers forcing even IITs to hold a second placement drive in late July and August. “We are yet to onboard only a small percentage of campus hires we made offers to so far,” said Pravin Rao, COO at Infosys. The technology multinational made 18,000 job offers the last financial year. It said it will also onboard the lateral hires. “We will honour all the commitments made to campus hires — freshers as well as lateral. As far as onboarding timelines are concerned, we have already hired a few lateral employees, while in lockdown,” he said during its Q4 earnings call. Employee count decreases by over 1,000 <div type="image" title="infy employees" msid="75253862" hostid="261"></div> There has been a decrease in the employee headcount — by over 1,000. The employee count at Infosys stood at 243,454 during the third quarter ending in December 2019 — higher than 242,371 as of March 2020. “We should not read into the fall in employee count, it is not a secular trend,” Rao said. He did not hint any furloughs or layoffs, given the Coronavirus chaos. Going forward, Rao said that the company is planning to make more than 35,000 offers in FY21. “In the near term, there will be a demand-supply mismatch because we were already geared for high volume in the first quarter. We have to ensure that the utilisation rates go up,” said Nilanjan Roy, CFO at Infosys. Remote assessment for nearly 6,000 trainees Infosys claims to have a strong digital footprint. The company said that all the 6,000 trainees will now continue their training remotely. “There are assessments, certifications and other online training to facilitate remote programmes,” Rao added. In fact, as much as 93% of the employees at Infosys are now working from home, thanks to the lockdown. The focus is on employee safety. “We will revisit as the situation evolves, keeping the safety of employees a priority. We will also take initiatives like temperature check etc,” the company said. Infosys has a new 'no regret' policy when it comes to employees

<ul><li>The highest job offer at the <keyword id="119622" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Institute-of-Foreign-Trade">Indian Institute of Foreign Trade</keyword> (<keyword id="6735361" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="iift">IIFT</keyword>) stood at a staggering ₹75 lakh per annum — one of the highest pay packets received so far across management institutes. </li><li>As many as 125 companies visited the campus and the average compensation stood at ₹20.48 lakh. </li><li>IIFT said that nearly 28% of its graduates received pre-placement offers.</li></ul>The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) beat Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Xaviers School of Management (XLRI) and Faculty of Management Studies (FMS) Delhi to bag the highest salary offer at ₹75 lakh per annum. The institute, which operates under the commerce ministry however saw only a marginal increase in average compensation to ₹20.5 lakh. As many as 125 companies visited the campus this year and over 40 first-time recruiters hired this year. This includes consulting and banking majors McKinsey &amp; Co, Reckitt Benckiser, RBL Bank and Axis Bank. “The largest ever batch of 2018-20 has been placed in various reputed organizations. The successful placement is a testament to the rigorous academic involvement and professional exposure IIFT provides to its students,” <a href="https://m.hindustantimes.com/brand-post/iift-final-placements-sees-the-record-of-recruiters-attending-the-campus/story-ERcqleK0GdUAc3eDZkqAoO_amp.html">said</a> Rohit Mehtani, head of corporate relations and placement division. The students received job offers from companies across sectors like consulting, banking and finance, sales, marketing and operations. Offers from tech giants — Microsoft, Wipro, Cognizant and Capgemini — for IT and product management roles also continued to grow. The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. IIFT said that nearly 28% of its graduates received pre-placement offers. During the summer placements as well, the average stipend stood at a whopping ₹2 lakh a month. “The students at IIFT were placed across 96 companies. The highest stipend offered was ₹3.2 lakh per month. IIFT receives highest job offer at ₹75 lakh — that’s higher than XLRI, FMS and a few IIMs

Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon secured 100% placements within the first three days — with Amazon offering the highest package at ₹40.5 lakhs. The average compensation too increased by 9.5% at ₹ 22.05 lakhs. Of the total 360 offers rolled out, nearly 70 came from ecommerce and IT sectors. This includes nearly 41 offers from e-commerce platforms like Flipkart, Make My Trip, Oyo, PhonePe and 27 offers from the IT giants like Accenture, Capgemini, IBM and Tech Mahindra. In an interview with Business Insider, Kanwal Kapil, Dean of Placements at MDI, Gurgaon said that the employers are now keen on hiring management graduates with digital literacy. “When you talk about digital businesses, they will definitely look at retaining talent with digital skills. The e-commerce sector has seen the highest growth, in terms of hiring at nearly 141%, compared to last year,” he said. Over half of the offers (57%) were from companies in the consulting, BFSI (Banking, Insurance and Financial Services), technology and telecom domains. This includes 63 offers from PwC, Deloitte, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank and Airtel. While automotive, logistics and pharmaceuticals accounted for almost 15% of the offers. PwC US Advisory emerged the largest recruiter with 14 offers, followed by Deloitte USI, ICICI Bank and IDFC First Bank with 13 offers each. Telecom major Airtel made 10 offers. Kapil told that all of these offers were for domestic roles. However, since most of the employers are global multinationals, these might also lead to international projects, depending on the demand. Amazon becomes the top recruiter at MDI Gurgaon with a ₹40.5 lakh offer

According to a TOI report, Google is also bringing its fresh recruits onboard. It usually hires nearly 60 campus graduates every year in India. In February 2020, Cognizant announced that it will hire 20,000 ‘digitally ready’ freshers at an increased compensation of ₹400,000 per annum. But, given the current situation, the onboarding dates may vary because of the extended lockdown and completion of the academic programme. However, the promised ‘hike’ might be missing. TCS, Cognizant, Capgemini and other top giants who are not letting go of their new hires

<keyword id="6006683" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="medha-kumari">Medha Kumari</keyword>, a <keyword id="66379" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="National-Institute-of-Technology">National Institute of Technology</keyword> student from the western state of Bihar, recently clutched a Rs 39.5 lakh (4 million) annual package from <keyword id="99699" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adobe">Adobe</keyword> during the ongoing 2017 placement drive. Several students from IIT and IIM have bagged such offers from global giants like <keyword id="6355629" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> and <keyword id="10387" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> in the past, but why Kumari's story is inspiring is because she is the first girl student from her college to have made it to Adobe, and that too at the <keyword id="3947508" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="highest-salary-package">highest salary package</keyword> offered to any NIT Patna student in the past. Born to a small trader Manoj Kumar Karak, Kumari is a computer science and engineering student at NIT Patna. Her mother Benu Karak is a homemaker. She had earlier bagged an annual pay package of Rs 8.75 lakh at another software company, but tried again. “Since I was expecting better pay package, I started preparing for the placement once again and it worked. The interview was quite tough but I was confident,” she says. Apart from Adobe, 37 companies including Tata Motors, Samsung R&amp;D Institute India, HighRadius, Hero MotoCorp, Wipro, L&amp;T Corporate (POWAI), IBM, L&amp;T Construction, Capgemini, Futures First and Amazon participated in the placement drive. Amazon became the second biggest recruiter offering five students Rs 27.5 lakh pay package each. HighRadius meanwhile made 51 offers this year, which is the biggest from a recruiter, out of which 49 students were offered Rs 7 lakh package while 2 students received annual offers of Rs 8 lakh. It is a player in cloud-based integrated receivables software space. Among all these offers, Medha Kumari's salary package has been the highest for an NIT-Patna student till date, according to Samrat Mukherjee from the Training and Placement Cell at NIT Patna. Kumari had appeared for an online test conducted by Adobe on the institute’s campus, followed by a technical test and an interview conducted in Kolkata. 40 other students also appeared for the online test, however, she became the only student to clear all rounds and secure a job in Adobe from her college. The 20-year-old student is now bracing to kick-start her stint at Adobe, Noida from June 2018 as software development, implementation, and coding officer.

2017 placement season: Adobe offers Rs 40 lakh pay package to a 20-year-old

The academy claims that most of their students also managed to receive compensation that is twice that of their campus job offers. Of the 182 learners on the platform, 83 previously had job offers extending an average salary of nearly ₹7 lakh via campus placement drives or direct recruitment. That means, the salaries offered after reskilling was more than double, compared to the campus offers. “Once the youth of our country is empowered with the necessary skills and knowledge, they are capable of creating hundreds of unicorns like Facebook and Google. The April 2019 batch was the litmus test to understand that. In fact, 33 of them today hold job offers that are paying over ₹25 lakh per annum,” said <keyword id="8665617" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="abhimanyu-saxena">Abhimanyu Saxena</keyword>, Co-founder at Scaler Academy and <keyword id="8665620" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="InterviewBit">InterviewBit</keyword>. Scaler Academy is an initiative of the reskilling startup Interviewbit. While a few learners on the platform came from premier Indian institutions like Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), almost three-fourths of them were from tier II colleges. “72% of our students come from non-‘pedigree’ institutions and yet they have been able to secure gainful employment opportunities with top companies, including the likes of Google. The numbers clearly suggest that most MNCs and leading start-ups are no longer only hiring from Tier1 colleges, they are increasingly looking at talent over pedigree,” added <keyword id="279823" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anshuman-Singh">Anshuman Singh</keyword>, co-founder at Scaler Academy and InterviewBit. Currently, Scaler academy has a user base of nearly 2,000 students. IIT graduates bagged ‘above-average salary packages’ this placement season According to the report, two students at IIT Delhi and Bombay have lost their jobs at Schlumberger. While two other selected graduates from IIT Kanpur and Madras have now been offered similar roles — but at lower salaries. Given the current situation, it does not help that most of the IIT graduates bagged ‘above-average salary packages’ this placement season. IIT Kharagpur students also bagged a few offers from Schlumberger. “As on date, none of the offers were revoked. That was a generic email. We haven’t heard back from them,” Parag Deshpande, vice-chairperson, CDC at IIT-Kharagpur said. “As of now we have withdrawn the offers. If the business climate changes, we will be the first to reach out to those who have been filtered through the whole recruitment process,” Reddy added. ‘We have to take care of our employees first’ Reddy also <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/education/energy-major-schlumberger-withdraws-job-offers-to-fresh-iit-graduates-6373375/">said</a> that employees across the top management have already taken a pay cut due to the Covid-19 crisis. “We have a longstanding relationship with the IITs. Several companies have rescinded job offers made to the fresh graduates.That leaves students of premier IIMs and other b-schools that secured thousands of offers, in dire straits. It does not help that most of them bagged ‘above-average salary packages’ this placement season. Most of the recruits were top-notch consulting firms, multinational companies, tech majors and more. Lately, the IIMs have been dealing with last minute withdrawals from these high profile recruiters. IIM Bangalore earlier said that it will now reach out to those recruiters who had shown interest in hiring from the top institute earlier but were not a part of the placement drive — to check if they are still willing to hire candidates. At IIM Calcutta, nearly four companies have revoked the job offers and summer internships so far, affecting over 12 students from the current academic year. On the other hand, IITs — where students bagged job offers as high as ₹10 million from Uber — have not been notified of any such decision. The engineering institutions are now considering hosting another placement drive in July-August as the number of offers being taken back have risen. A US-based consultancy firm recently repealed 11 job offers made to students at IIT Delhi, Madras and Kanpur campuses.
