The Delhi High Court has upheld an arbitration panel ruling in favour of Reliance Industries Ltd in a dispute with state-owned ONGC over gas that migrated from fields operated by ONGC to the KG-D6 area. Two companies were fined a provisional penalty of $1.55bn by the government for "unjust enrichment", but an arbitration panel ruled they had "produced gas from their contract area" and were exonerated. The government challenged the decision, but the Delhi High Court found the conclusion was “perfectly rational, coherent and logical” and that there was “no ground to interfere with the majority arbitral award”.
