Microsoft is opening up pre-orders for the Surface Book laptop in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, and others, on January 5, according to a company blog post.

The laptop, which is Microsoft's first, was previously only available in the US. One of Microsoft's most valuable professionals (a liaison between Microsoft and developers) was told the Book would become available in March, but it appears Microsoft has been working ahead of schedule.

The Surface Book launched in the US on October 26. Unlike the Surface Pro, the Book is a laptop first and a tablet second. Without the keyboard dock, the display can only last three hours, making it more suited to laptop-style use.

Microsoft has been gradually expanding its hardware range over the past few years, starting with the Surface Pro and moving on to the Book and Band, a fitness wearable. The company is also making HoloLens, an augmented reality headset, starting in 2016.

Microsoft is reportedly looking at opening a store in London, after opening two in New York City and Sydney, Australia.
