ChatGPT just got more accessible: Here’s how you can open the AI Chatbot directly from Mac's menu bar

ChatGPT has become extremely popular since its release, acquiring 100 million users faster than Instagram, Facebook, and other popular apps. Developed by OpenAI, this conversational AI chatbot generates human-like responses and can be useful across industries and professions. Users can ask questions, seek suggestions, obtain information, and converse with ChatGPT for many other use cases. While there are numerous interesting things to do with ChatGPT, it would be more convenient if users could access the AI chatbot without repeatedly opening the website.

Fortunately, Mac users can do this by accessing ChatGPT directly from their Menu Bar. Let's take a look at how it works.

While Google and Microsoft have already embraced conversational AI with their respective chatbots, Bard AI and Bing AI Chat, Apple has yet to hop on the AI chatbot train and upgrade Siri to use ChatGPT on iPhone and Mac. Currently, ChatGPT provides the most refined conversational AI experience.

Fortunately, developer Jordi Bruin has created a solution. With the macGPT app, you can now install ChatGPT directly onto your macOS device and access it conveniently from the Menu Bar.

Here’s how to access ChatGPT through your Mac's Menu Bar

• Visit the macGPT website, you'll see a prompt on the right-hand side that says, ‘I want this!’ In the text box above, you can enter the amount you'd like to pay the developer for their efforts. However, enter ‘$0’ in the amount section and download the app for free.

• Once you have entered the desired amount, simply click on the ‘I want this!’ button, and you will be directed to the checkout page on Gumroad. If you opt for the free version, you only need to enter your email address and no card details. After completing the checkout process, you will receive an invoice for your transaction via email

• Once you have downloaded the macGPT app, unzip the folder and save it to your preferred location. Then, click on the macGPT icon to launch the software. When you launch the app, you may encounter a warning prompt. To proceed, simply click on ‘Open.’

• After installation, you'll notice the ChatGPT logo on your macOS Menu bar. This logo provides you with instant access to the ChatGPT AI bot whenever you need it.
