The Nobel Prize in Economics will be announced at 7 a.m. ET (1 p.m. local time in Sweden).

Here's who has the best shot at receiving the award, and what it might be given in recognition of:

  • Studies on entrepreneurship. If the award is for this, Reuters think it would go to William Baumol and Israel Kirzner, both of whom have pioneered research in this area.
  • Research on growth theory. In this case, they think Harvard's Philippe Aghion and Brown University's Peter Howitt would get the Nobel. 
  • Work on economic sociology. In this case, Stanford's Mark Granovetter could be given the prize.
