This festive season, you could be shelling out more money for your air travel, since the price of aviation turbine fuel (ATF), also called jet fuel, which accounts for 40% of the operating costs of an airline, was recently hiked by 9.2%.

Over the past three months, this is the fourth consecutive increase in jet fuel prices, because of which it costs 35% more than it did before March.

Although no airline has as of yet commented on how this hike is going to impact fares, senior industry officials opine that the peak summer travel season is soon going to be over and most of the tickets for this period of mid April to early July have already been sold.

The dry season following this peak comes with several discounts by all airlines, which means that they would be left with the festive season to cash in the hike.
