Russian ambassador to Turkey, Andrey Karlov, was reportedly shot in Ankara, Turkish media is reporting.

Karlov, who has been hospitalized and is in critical condition, had just given the opening speech at the Ankara Center for Contemporary Art when he was attacked by unidentified gunman.

Turkish-Russian relations had been precarious but improving since Turkey shot down a Russian warplane along the Turkish-Syrian border last November.
