Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) today said its premium hatchback Swift has crossed 13 lakh sales milestone since its launch in 2005.
"Over 1.3 million Swift cars have been bought in India so far, transforming the landscape of the Indian auto industry and inspiring new products, market segments and categories," MSI Executive Director (Marketing & Sales), R S Kalsi said in a statement.
Since its launch, the company brought in minor changes in the Swift twice in 2007 and 2014 while a full model change took place once in 2011.
Swift touched one lakh unit sales mark in 2007 and it crossed two lakh sales mark one year later in 2008. In January 2010, the model touched 5 lakh units mark and in September 2013 the model achieved 10 lakh sales milestone in the country.
Diesel variant of the car was first introduced in 2007. Swift, which was showcased as a concept in Paris Motor Show in 2002, was first launched in Japanese market in November 2004. It made its way to theIndian market in May 2005.
