Yuvi means business! Know what is keeping the cricket star occupied off the field

Starting an entrepreneurial venture of their own is nothing new for Indian cricketers . The ‘God of cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar, Dada aka Saurav Ganguly, Virendra Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, all of these cricketing stars have done it. And now, youth icon Yuvraj Singh has also joined the league.

An Economic Times report stated that Yuvi, who’s considered to Delhi Daredevil’s USP in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), is starting a new innings as a businessman. The 33-year-old cricketer is floating a venture fund, YouWeCan Venture, which aims to support young entrepreneurs by investing in startups across sectors.

Over a period of three to five years, Yuvi will put about Rs 50 crore in this new venture fund, which is expected to secure around Rs 300 crore from other investors during the same period.

While talking to the financial daily at his Gurgaon residence, Yuvraj said, "I had been thinking about this for four-five years. There are a lot of young entrepreneurs with great high-potential ideas and I plan to invest in these startups, to build their brands and companies."

He further told ET, "Many of my friends and associates will co-invest in building large-scale brands and firms," but didn’t disclose any information about whom he was referring to.

Nishant Singhal, a co-promoter of the fund, informed the business daily that the plan also includes setting up of a chain of restaurants under the brand YouWeX. However, the format of the restaurant hasn’t been finalised yet.
