The end of a long holiday weekend in Florida was marked with the state's fewest reported COVID-19 cases in nearly three months, the Associated Press reported.

Florida reported 1,838 new cases of COVID-19 on Labor Day. The last time the state's single-day number of new cases was this low was June 15 — also a Monday — when 1,758 new cases were reported.

To date, Florida has reported 646,431 cases of the novel coronavirus, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The state has recorded at least 11,849 deaths related to the virus, according to Johns Hopkins.

As the AP noted, however, some public-health officials are worried that Labor Day weekend activities will cause a surge in cases, as happened after the Fourth of July.
