Half of all US adults are fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Half of all adults in the US are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning they've received both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna shot or the single-shot Johson & Johson vaccine.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 61% of adults in the US are at least partially vaccinated against the disease, and 50% of all Americans have received both doses.

The highest rate of vaccination is among people aged 65 and older, with 74% of them partially vaccinated and more than 85% fully vaccinated.

As vaccinations reach enough people, many pre-pandemic norms in the US have returned. Earlier this month, the CDC updated its guidelines, and states started lifting restrictions for vaccinated people, including the wearing of masks in most indoor and outdoor settings.

President Joe Biden has said he hopes that 70% of US adults will be fully vaccinated against the disease by July. States across the US have introduced incentives to encourage people to receive the shots.

Throughout the pandemic, more than 33 million people in the US have been infected with COVID-19 and 590,000 people have died from the disease, according to Johns Hopkins data. As of Tuesday, more than 163 million Americans have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
