Actor Sunny Deol jumps into politics, joins BJP

Veteran Bollywood actor Sunny Deol on Tuesday entered active politics, joining the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Sixty two-year old Deol will likely fight from Gurdaspur, according to media reports.

“The way my father was associated with Atal Behari Vajpayee, I want to be associated with Modi Ji,” he told media. “I want BJP to come to power for the next five years because we want development.”

He made the announcement in the presence of Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman.

Deol is the son of actor Dharmendra, who also had a stint with politics. He is related to actor-turned-politician Hema Malini, who is also a BJP candidate.
