Amazon India has wrapped up the 'Great India Sale,' and claims that it has been the largest in terms of growth and sales. As per Amazon, the sale surpassed the figures of Amazon's last sale in January.

The e-tailer saw the biggest opening day of the year during the four-day sale, fuelled by buyers from tier 2 and tier 3 cities like Singrauli, Muzaffarnagar, and Shivpuri. Orders from these cities swelled up by a whopping 235%.

"We are amazed at the response to the Great Indian Sale," said Manish Tiwary, VP (Category Management) at Amazon India. "In addition to new customer acquisition in smaller towns, this sale also resulted in important brand partners witnessing large sales spikes of up to 90X, led by fashion, consumer electronics," he added.

Tiwary added that subscription for prime membership, its premium service, surpassed all expectations and accounted for 35% of purchases made during the sale, besides prime members being the highest spenders.

In terms of fashion purchases, this has been the biggest fashion sale for Amazon, with majority of brands witnessing more than ninefold growth.

During the four-day sale, smartphones, fashion, and consumer electronics remained the top three categories. Other than these, large appliances like ACs and refrigerators too witnessed high sales.
