Coolpad compares its latest phone priced at Rs. 13,999 to iPhone 7, plans to launch premium phone in India in 2017

Looks like Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad is not yet done with 2016. Just when the year is coming to an end the Chinese smartphone maker has squeezed in one last launch for the year. The company today launched its new phone Cool1, a dual camera phone that the company compares with Apple’s iPhone 7. The new phone is priced at Rs. 13999 which is certainly on the lower side compared to the other dual cameras available in the market like iPhone 7 and Honor 8. The company says that the way it builds its phone is by putting technology first and pricing at the absolute last, there have been times for Coolpad where they have dropped the pricing of their phones minutes before the announcement! While they have managed to bring some mid range phones to compete with the likes of Xiaomi and LeEco but it doesn’t stop here for Coolpad, the company has big plans for the India market for 2017 including a premium phone at a premium price. Coolpad is likely to bring in 14 devices next year. Coolpad globally has 14 devices and the company is hoping to bring all the devices in the India market. Cool 1 is the first phone from the Cool series and is the second phone launched by the company within a month, Cool 1 is not a flagship phone but the phone is “user experience focused”. The company says phone is targeting the young user by putting in extra might in design, camera, music. Cool 1 sports a dual rear 13MP camera with dual tone LED flash and 8MP front camera. It packs a 5.5-inch full HD resolution with a full metallic body. The device comes with two different variants 3GB and 4GB with internal storage of 32GB. The smartphone is packed with a 4000mAh battery with fast charging support.

So far in India, the company has stuck with mid to low range phones like most other Chinese smartphone makers in the country but Coolpad is now looking to launch its first premium phone in India in 2017 at the price of Rs. 40,000 and upwards. The company is also looking at and open to partnership in the India market with other smartpohone makers or even telecom operators much like it’s presence in China where it’s presence includes online and offline retail, operator partnerships.

Coolpad is also expected to announce a big partnership in the India market at the CES 2016 in China, which is likely to take shape in 2017 and will help the company to grow in India.
