A preliminary reading on consumer confidence in February is set for release at 10 a.m. ET.

The University of Michigan's consumer sentiment index is expected at 92.3, according to the consensus forecast from Bloomberg.

Earlier Friday, we got data showing that retail sales rose more than expected in January, underscoring that consumer spending remains strong.

In a client note after that report, TD Securities' David Tulk noted that the consumer confidence reading takes on an elevated importance because it will provide insight into whether the recent market turmoil is actually making consumers nervous about a recession, and impacting the broader economy.
