In order to strengthen its line-up of SUVs in India, South Korean multinational automobile manufacturer is prepping up to come out with a new model, Creta, during the second half of this year. This was revealed in a PTI report.

The report further stated that with its upcoming 5-seater SUV, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) is also planning to target its rivals Mahindra & Mahindra, Renault, Nissan Ford and Tata Motors.

Rakesh Srivastava, senior vice-president Sales and Marketing, HMIL, told PTI, "The Creta has been designed and developed in Korea while our engineers in Hyderabad and Chennai have played an important role in customising it for the Indian conditions."

"As of now, we are present in the SUV segment in the premium category with Santa FE and i20 Active, a sports-styled version. With Creta, we are entering the full-fledged volume segment of SUVs," he added.

Currently, the SUV segment in India is registering sales of about 11,200 units per month, but it has been witnessing a decline in sales of about 6% in the past five months. “With Creta, we are hoping to turn it around with positive sales growth," added Srivastava.
