- The Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, 99-92, on Christmas day with the help of a late no-call.
- Many felt the play looked like a clear foul by Kevin Durant on LeBron James.
- After the game, James said that he believed he was fouled on the play, but added that the play was over now and there was nothing he could do.
- Conversely, Durant defended the play, adding that those questioning the no-call should "Keep that s--- on Twitter."
In the third consecutive meeting between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Christmas day, the Warriors bested the Cavs with a 99-92 win in Oakland.
The back-and-forth game was tight throughout the matchup, but the play that will be remembered came in the closing seconds.
With the Cavaliers down 95-92 late in the fourth quarter, LeBron James drove to the hoop while being guarded by Kevin Durant. James was bumped by Durant on the floor, continued his drive, took to the air, and was once again hit as Durant attempted to keep pace.
No foul was called on the play and the ball went out of bounds to give the Warriors possession and ultimately, the win.
Unsurprisingly, the two stars had different reactions to the play after the game.
LeBron, who has struggled to get to the line this year in comparison to years past and has expressed frustration in a lack of calls this season, was clearly disappointed, but ultimately accepted the call.
"He fouled me twice," James said, "But, whatever. What are you going to do about it?"
Conversely, Durant was fairly defensive about the play. When a reporter asked about the call, mentioning that the play had caused a bit of controversy on Twitter, Durant took a light-hearted shot at the internet warriors he imagined debating the call.
"It's probably the same play a bunch of those dudes on Twitter probably arguing about at 24 Hour Fitness that that wasn't a foul," Durant said. "They've been in that position before, but just not on Christmas at the Oracle Arena. So they know. They know if they ain't call it it's not a foul."
Closing his argument on the matter, Durant said simply, "Keep that s--- on Twitter."
You can watch Durant's comments below.
Durant knows a thing or two about Twitter arguments, having been outed earlier this year as using burner accounts to defend himself anonymously online, adding an extra bit of comedy to the already relatively absurd situation.
Ultimately, Monday's game was just another compelling regular season matchup between two top teams, and should Cleveland and Golden State meet again in the Finals this incident will be nothing more than another tidbit to look back on in the ongoing struggle between the teams.
