L&T gets Rs 468 crore order to build a floating dock for the Indian Navy

To enhance the infrastructure of the Indian Navy , the Defence Ministry has given a Rs 468-crore order for the design and construction of a floating dock to the India’s largest infrastructure company Larsen & Toubro (L&T). The dock would serve as a service station for warships and submarines .
"In keeping with the government's 'Make in India' thrust, complete design and engineering of the floating dock (FDN) will be under-taken at L&T'sWarship Design Centre . The floating dock will be capable of docking naval ships and submarines of up to 8000 T displacement with draughts up to 7 m, during day and night," MV Kotwal, president of Heavy Engineering and Member of the Board at L&T, told the Economic Times.
"The dock will conform to international norms and will incorporate fully automated Ballast Control System. The FDN will be self-sufficient, catering to the dock side services requirements of the docked and berthed warships," he added.
Meanwhile, the infrastructure company is already working on other Ministry of Defence Ministry contracts for design and construction of 54 fastinterceptor boats for the Indian Coast Guard .
So far, the company has delivered at least 27 interceptor boats to the Indian Coast Guard.
The floating dock contract for FDN comes to L&T on the back of an order for design and construction of seven offshore patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard at Rs 1,432 crore.
