MARKETS: FTSE recovering from Black Monday hangover

European markets were buoyed on Wednesday by a last-minute recovery in the Chinese stock markets. It was a quiet day compared to the volatile swings seen in the last few weeks.

The FTSE jumped up 0.41% to 6083.31. It was a rare positive trading session in a rollercoaster few weeks for the UK's stock index.

The FTSE is recovering from its Black Monday plunge, but only slowly.
