"We are looking to expand capacity and set up more lines and plants. We are proactively looking at it and are working with our partner Foxconn. Currently, discussions are on with different governments," Manu Jain, India head at Xiaomi, told ET. "We have also been increasing the capacity at the existing plant."
Xiaomi is world's third-largest smartphone maker, and has recently launched its largest device, Mi Max, in India, importing its first batch from China; however, it plans to start the domestic production around mid-July.
The Beijing-headquartered company has applied for single-brand retail in the country, but is waiting for an approval.
