The Ohio State Quarterback Isn't Leaving School Early To Turn Pro Because He Wants To Be A Financial Planner (Financial Planning)
Cardale Jones, a 22 year old sophomore and quarterback at Ohio State University, announced that he will stay in school rather than turning pro this year because he wants to graduate and become a financial planner after his football career ends, reports Charles Paikert.
"Jones can set a phenomenal example for other athletes about good money habits," says Ed Gjertsen, president of the FPA and vice president of Mack Investment Securities, the Northfield, Ill.-based firm that has participated in the National Football League's financial advisors program.
US GDP Will Grow 2.5-3% This Year Despite Oil (Advisor Perspectives)
"While we expect near-term volatility associated with falling oil prices and weak economic growth in Europe to continue over the next few months, we remain bullish about the global economy and equity markets overall," writes the Calamos Investments team. "Despite the impact of reduced capital spending on oil and oil-related sectors, we see US GDP growth of 2.5%-3.0% in 2015 and corporate earnings growth in the 6%-7% range.
Additionally, "we believe the start of QE in Europe will ease concerns about global growth. With share buybacks and M&A activity helping provide a floor, inexpensive valuations and an improving economy should allow the US market to move 12% higher by year end, providing an equity return of around 14%," the team writes.
Five Investment Themes That Could Surprise Investors In 2015 (InvestmentNews)
According to Scott Coyler, five outcomes in 2015 that "are likely but not expected" are the following: European equities will have a huge year, inflation will begin to "show its ugly head," the best performing government bond in 2015 will be TIPS, precious metals and basic resources will be winners, and emerging equity markets will outperform the US.
"Overall, we are not calling for anything that hasn't happened in the past," writes Coyler. "Economies cycle through growth and troughs. We call it a business cycle and it happens over and over. ... Common sense begs us to get out in front of the cycle rather than trail it."

"Morgan Stanley said on Tuesday it would pay 39% or less of revenue from its institutional securities business to employees in 2015. Chief Executive James Gorman said in June the ratio would be 40% or less," Agrawal and Lacapra report.
