A Times News Network report has revealed that Flipkart sold products worth Rs 2,000 crore during its ‘Big Billion Day’ sale. However, the popular online marketplace managed to sell products worth Rs 600 crore in a single day last year.

On the other hand, Amazon India, another leading e-tailer in the country, which also conducted the mega sale, has announced that the first day of its Great Indian Festive Sale was the biggest day ever for Amazon.in in terms of revenue. "It was two times bigger than our previous big day which was The Great Indian Freedom Sale (held in August this year ahead of Independence Day) and four times bigger than last Diwali," as per a statement issued by Amazon India.

Snapdeal, a New Delhi-based eCommerce platform, said that in the first four days of its sale, the online retailer had shipped around 5 million products. Snapdeal also added that during the same time, it had sold mobile devices worth Rs 500 crore and registered almost 3.5 time growth in new users, reported TNN.

This year, Flipkart managed to sell around 8 million mobile units during its Big Billion Day sale. Around half of the consumers came from Tier-II and smaller towns. Apparel and mobile phones accounted for 65% of the sales, which was followed by electronics and home appliances, and home furnishings.

The news report also added that nearly 65% of Amazon’s orders came from Tier-II and Tier-III cities. The fashion category registered a five-fold increase as against the sales that took place last year during the same period.

While a majority of e-tailers focused on building mobile user-base this year by promoting their mobile apps, Flipkart restricted its sale only to those using the mobile application as part of its ongoing effort to move to the app-only mode.

It was quite surprising to see that Snapdeal’s mobile app saw nearly 5 million downloads during the sale this year. Amazon, on the other hand, said that traffic from mobile was over 70%, where lakhs of new customers came from cities like Aurangabad, Malappuram, Dhanbad, Kannur, Tiruchirappalli, Jamshedpur and others.

Flipkart, too, registered approximately 5 million app downloads during this period. "In preparation for Big Billion Days, we had improved our app and reduced the size from 14MB to 10MB. Overall, the app experience is very fast and smooth," said Bansal.
