Just as the clock struck 12, Yakub Memon’s family sent him a cake by a jail authority. On July 30, Yakub Memon turned 53.
Few people suffer the state of being hanged to death on the same day as he was born. Yakub Memon, one of the key accused in the 1993 serial Mumbai blast case was hanged to death a little before 7 am at the Nagpur jail today.


Yakub met his relatives on July 29 where he is said to have cried seeking forgiveness from his family. A moist eyed Yakub even bid farewell to his jailmates refusing the ceremonial health check-up meted out to a convict who will be hanged.


A few weeks ago when Yakub met his daughter at Hawaii, he apparently told them that he was ready to meet his fate. He also told them that if he ever walked free his first wish as a free man would be to build a school. Yakub Memon ‘s fate at the galore was sealed for the last time at 5 am this morning when the Supreme Court, after an unprecedented 90-minute long hearing that began at 3 am, rejected his final mercy plea.
