Bomb squad deployed to suspect's home after shooting wounds 2 police, explosives found
Two pounds of the explosive material tannerite was found at the home of a man suspected of shooting two police officers in Sebastian County, Arkansas on Wednesday morning.
The suspect, identified as Billy Monroe Jones, has been arrested, according to Sebastian County Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck. A bomb squad has been deployed to secure the area.
Sebastian County Sheriff Bill Hollenbeck tells Fort Smith television station KHBS that the man is accused of shooting one of his sheriff's deputies and a Hackett police officer.
Police told KFSM news that Jones barricaded himself inside a home after the officers were shot while responding to a call of a family disturbance around 7:15 a.m.
One of the officers was realeased from the hospital at 10:30 with a superficial wound to the head, and another remains in extremely critical condition in ICU as of 11:30 a.m.
Jones has previously been arrested for unlawful possession of drugs, firearms, and theft.
