With so much around concerning fitness and Yoga for the upcoming International Yoga day, there is quite a buzz among the inquisitive masses about what the origin of Yoga is and more importantly what to practice! Yoga or Asanas were not merely what it is perceived today, which that is just a medium to keep us hale and hearty. It meant a lot more to the early Yogis who used an amalgamation of Having its origin almost 26 thousand years ago during the Sat Yuga the existence of this form surfaced more during the Indus Valley Civilization. Though the origin of Yoga is as hazy as the origin of mankind but Archaic Yoga relating to rituals and ceremonies has been found in Vedic Texts and further down Yoga seeped into Buddhism when the great exponent of Jainism, Rishabha emphasised on physical efforts for liberalisation of spirit.
From Vedic period and Patanjali to today’s International Yoga day, Yoga has persisted through more than 80 million types of postures. We have inherited only a handful of them- may be less than 50. But the foremost Asanas still remain the most popular, simple and most advisable forms of exercise.
