Domestic air travel leaps 18.35%

Domestic air travel bookings have risen 18.35% in April over the same period last year, thanks to summer bookings.

IndiGo continues to dominate the market with more than a third of the share. The airline transported a hefty 27.69 lakhs passengers.

Domestic airlines together carried a total of 71.27 lakhs passengers in May as opposed to 60.22 lakhs in the same month last year.

SpiceJet scored the highest seat factor at 93.1% in May, mainly due to a chain of low-fare promotions.

National carrier Air India's share in the total number of passangers ferried stands at 15.8%, while Jet Airways flew a sizeable 13.01 lakhs to their destination.

The two new airlines in the market AirAsia India and Vistara scored less than a lakh passengers in the month. The same went for Air Costa and Air Pegasus.

IndiGo also registered a significant load factor of 91.9%, closely followed by GoAir at 89.4%.
