In a blow to the Modi government's ‘Make In India’ drive, the The research and development project was expected to become functional next year. The state government has started prosecution against Maruti for allegedly initiating construction without obtaining environmental clearance.
Maruti, the country's largest carmaker, has stopped construction work at the facility following the government order. It has now decided to construct its next production facility in Gujarat instead of Haryana.
The carmaker was setting up a vehicle testing facility at Rohtak in about 600 acres of land. This was to become the largest of its kind in India.
