Here comes Empire State manufacturing ...

The Empire State Manufacturing index surged to 9.56 in April, according to the New York Federal Reserve.

Economists had estimated that the index of activity in the state jumped to 2 in April from 0.62 in March. The March index was the first positive reading since last July.
