Dakota Meyer, a Medal of Honor recipient and Sarah Palin's son-in-law, on Tuesday called for Donald Trump to apologize to the family of Capt. Humayun Khan, a Muslim-American solider who was killed in the Iraq War.

"If @realDonaldTrump wants to be the Commander in Chief, he needs to act like one," Meyer tweeted. "And that cant start until he apologizes to the Khans."

The US Marine veteran's tweet was immediately retweeted by Trump's Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.

Meyer is married to Bristol Palin, whose mother endorsed Trump ahead of the Iowa caucuses and has been one of his fiercest supporters.

Khizr Khan and his wife, Ghazala, the parents of the slain Muslim-American soldier, offered a powerful rebuke to Trump on the final night of the Democratic National Convention.

In an eight-minute speech, delivered by Khizr, the family questioned whether the New York businessman had ever read the US Constitution or sacrificed anything for his country.
